24/7 Heaven – Chapter 23: Best-laid Plans

Drowsily, Tae rolled over on the bed.  Or at least he tried to.  But something was impeding his progress.  Reluctantly, he opened his eyes.  The lamp on the nightstand was on, so the room was clearly lit; though, the clock read 4:32.

Tae glanced down at the thing impeding his progress.  It was a girl.  A girl!  He was lying on a bed with a girl!  Suddenly, she inhaled deeply, and her head fell back.  He recognized Tia immediately.  He heaved a sigh of relief.  Before panic set in.

He had spent the night sleeping on a bed with Tia?!  Did anyone know he was here?  What had happened?  He wracked his brain trying to remember.  He recalled picking her up at the airport.  Dropping her off a block from the hotel.  Following her up to her room.  Entering the hotel room to discover her in the shower.   Then he had lain down on the bed.  And apparently fallen sound asleep!

He had slept for over nine hours!  And he had missed his evening date with Tia.  He felt so sad.  He had lost several hours with her.  But as he peeked down at her slumbering face, he realized he hadn’t lost anything.  She had been here with him the entire time.  And he had gained this precious moment.  Tia was adorable when she was sleeping.

He lay for a long time staring down at her enchanting countenance.  His eyes slid over the contours of her heart-shaped face.  Her chestnut curls were mostly in hiding since her head was thrown back.  She was leaning on his arm.  Her tan forehead was swept free of her hair.

His eyes traversed her dark eyebrows and the mounds of her eyelids, closed in slumber.  How could a sleeping woman’s eyelids be so achingly beautiful?  He wanted to plant a kiss on each one.  But that was such a bizarre thought!  And it would probably feel weird to be the recipient of such a strange kiss.

He moved on, sliding down the straight slope of her cute nose.  A noble nose which she had once disdained.  But which Tae adored.  Then his eyes landed squarely in the tiny divot above her upper lip.  Tae was fascinated by that minuscule well.  He wanted to plant a kiss there too.  But what he really desired was resting right below that delicious spot.  Her luscious lips.  Tae already knew what they tasted like.  But they were a delicacy he would like to indulge in over and over again.

However, she was sleeping.  And he knew it wouldn’t be wise to rouse her with kisses at four-thirty in the morning.  While lying in a bed with her.  On a bed.  ON.  Not in the bed.  Still, he was getting uncomfortable.

Gently, he disengaged himself from her, being careful not to jostle her too much as he slid out from underneath her.  Slowly, he rolled off the bed and headed for the bathroom.  He needed a shower.  A cold one.

Then, perhaps, he’d go about getting some clean clothes and procuring some breakfast for them.  He had a wonderful day planned.  He couldn’t wait to start it!
