Baby Fever

Tae rolled over in bed.  In was four am.  And no one was in bed with him.  He crawled out of bed, still half asleep, and headed out to the living room.  And there she was.  His wife was sound asleep on the couch with their 2-month-old son sleeping away on her chest.  He smiled.  They were adorable.  And he really wanted to take them both back to bed.  But…how?

In his drowsiness, Tae forgot that they in fact had a crib in their bedroom.  So, when he walked into their room carrying an infant two minutes later, he was pleasantly surprised to find it there.  He set his baby down in it before heading back out to the living room.

Usually, carrying his wife would be no problem.  But she was sleeping in such an odd position that he wasn’t sure how to pick her up without waking her.  He really had no choice at this point, though, so he leaned down and scooped her up off the couch.

She groaned and shifted a bit in his arms, but thankfully she stayed asleep.  He smiled in satisfaction and carried her back to their room before depositing her in the bed.  Then he scooped their little bundle of blankets out of the crib and carried him over to the bed.  Tae laid him in the middle of the bed before crawling into bed himself.

Tae lifted his finger and ran it across the little boy’s cheek.  The baby grinned in his sleep, making Tae smile.  He loved having a little tiny baby.  His wife always said that their little bundle of joy looked exactly like him, and in a way, she was right.  But the little baby also had her features.  He got his little button nose from her.  Tae booped that tiny nose.  The baby didn’t react, but Tae didn’t care.  He was still adorable.

Tae let his eyes flutter shut again.  It was too early.  The one thing he hated about having an infant was the sleep schedule.  Even if most of the time it wasn’t him up at three with the baby, he hated seeing his wife so exhausted.  And some nights it was him up with their infant.  But honestly, he loved those moments.  Even when he was just sitting on the couch bottle-feeding his baby, he loved it.

Tae let out a soft sigh, already half asleep again.  He was tired.  He opened his eyes one more time.  Then he leaned forward and kissed his wife on the forehead.  Then he bent down to kiss his baby son on the forehead.

“Goodnight, my little bear.”

Then he drifted off to sleep with two of the most important people in his life by his side.
