“I know what you’re thinking,” Yoongi began as he glanced at Namjoon. His eyes grew wide as he ejaculated, “‘What was I thinking when I bought our Sunshine mint chocolate chip ice cream?!’”
Their fearless leader grimaced. “Obviously, I wasn’t thinking. I clearly lost my mind while I was at the grocery store.”
“No, you didn’t,” Hobi retorted cheerfully. “You were trying to make me happy. And it worked.” He beamed at his friend. “I love mint chocolate chip! Even if you hate it. You made my day.”
Namjoon smiled grudgingly at him.
“And someone else did too,” Hobi continued as he looked around the room. “Who gave me the sun?”
“The sun?” Tae murmured.
Hobi pointed at the bright lamp that was now resting on the kitchen island. “My new lamp.”
As he witnessed an expression of perplexity crossing Tae’s face, Jungkook realized that he was blocking his friend’s view of Hobi’s gift. So he slid out of the way.
“Wow. That is bright!” Tae exclaimed. “Jungkookie, come back here.”
He reached out to grab his maknae by the shoulders. Then he gently pushed Jungkook until he was once again standing between him and the glowing disk. The two of them burst out laughing.
Hobi glanced around the room. “So? Who gave me the sun?”
No one responded.
Hobi narrowed his eyes and slowly studied each of the Bangtan Boys. “Oh, come on. Not even a hint?”
“Was there a clue in the box?” Tae asked.
Jin’s eyebrows delicately ascended his forehead. “Or ON the box?”
Everyone remembered Jin’s crazy search for answers. They all grinned. Especially Hobi. Then his face cleared as a look of hope lit up his countenance.
“Let’s find out!”
He ran back towards his room. Everyone followed him. Especially Namjoon. He was putting as much distance between himself and that carton of mint chocolate chip ice cream as possible.
Except that Jungkook foiled him by grabbing the carton off the counter and following him down the hallway. The cute youngest leaned towards Namjoon in the doorway of Hobi’s room and held the carton up for his hyung’s perusal.
“Are you sure you don’t like mint chocolate chip yet, Namjoonie?” Jungkook fluttered his eyelashes playfully at his friend.
Namjoon shuddered and shot him a look of disgust. “Get that out of my face!” he hollered, jumping back.
Jungkook snickered. Then he lunged for Tae and Jimin who were hiding just inside the door. They both fell back, tripping over each other. And ended up in a pile on Jimin’s bed. A moment later, Jungkook landed on top of them. They both groaned.
“Get off!” Tae shouted.
“Jungkookie, I can’t breathe!” Jimin gasped.
“Serves you both right. Jungkook is usually the one trapped on the bottom,” Yoongi excused his maknae with an affectionate smile.
Hobi burst out laughing. “If you guys are trying to amuse me today, it’s working.”
“I haven’t seen our Sunshine smile this much in over a year,” Yoongi remarked dryly. Before cracking his own smile at the silly antics of his friends.
Hobi picked up the box and glanced inside. He pulled out a folded paper. “It’s just the instructions for the lamp.”
“Are you sure?” Jimin asked suddenly as his lungs reinflated after Jungkook stood up again.
Hobi frowned as he glanced at the paper. “Yes. It’s the instructions.”
“Wait!” Jin reached for the pamphlet, snagging it and drawing it closer to his face. “I think there’s a code on here.”
Hobi groaned. “Not another code!”
“This one seems pretty straightforward,” Jin reassured him. “Someone has circled several words.”
“Here. Solace yourself with some ice cream,” Jungkook handed Hobi the container.
Hobi received it gratefully and grinned at his friend. “Here, Jungkookie. Open up.” He picked up the spoon and shoved a huge bite of ice cream into his maknae’s mouth before taking his own bite. They grinned at each other over their common love of mint chocolate chip.
“Anyone else want a bite?” Hobi teased, making eye contact with his four mint-hating friends. Yoongi was the only one whom seemed unscathed by the offer.
“It’s okay, Hobes. That just means there’s more for you to enjoy,” Jungkook murmured with a sweet smile.
“And you too, Kookie. I can’t possibly eat all of this by myself,” Hobi reciprocated.
Jungkook’s midnight brows slapped his bangs. “Really? I could eat five of those.”
“We know,” everyone else replied firmly. In unison.
Jungkook blushed and glanced down at the carton. Right before Hobi shoved another bite into his mouth.
“It’s okay, Kookie. Your unquenchable appetite is one of the things I love about you. I never have to worry about wasting food. I always know that if I can’t finish something, you’ll do it for me,” Hobi mumbled fondly.
Jungkook glanced up at him as an expression of sweet vulnerability flooded his face.
Meanwhile, Jin had gone in search of a piece of paper and a pen. He returned a couple of moments later and began to write down the circled words.
“Look! Whoever did this made it super easy for you!”
Jungkook is cracking me up here… And Yoongi’s preferential treatment of him is just so sweet
