“Chae. Wake up. We have to go.”
Chaeha rolled over in bed. It was ten. She shot out of bed. How had she slept so late? She looked up to the laughing face of her best friend, Ambra.
“You’re getting married today and you choose today to sleep in.”
Chaeha sighed. “Don’t nag me. Let’s just get ready to go.”
“All right, all right. We’re getting breakfast before we head to the church, though. We don’t need you passing out this afternoon because you didn’t eat.”
——————–
“Ms. Jung!” Chaeha and Ambra were greeted by two eager 6-year-olds.
Chaeha smiled. “Hi, boys. Do you remember Ambra?”
They both nodded, and Tae greeted Ambra with a grin. “Hi, Ms. Ambra!”
Ambra laughed. “Hi there. What are you two up to?”
“Joon and Hobi are helping set up, and Mr. Fisher kicked us out of the kitchen, so we have to stay out here.” Tae responded. “Appa said we can play on our iPad as long as we stay on the bench.”
“Where’s Kookie at?” Chaeha asked.
“I dunno.” Jimin shrugged.
“Let’s go see what’s going on in the kitchen,” Ambra suggested.
They never actually made it to kitchen, though. Jin ran into them in hallway. He was holding Kookie, who had his face buried in Jin’s shoulder.
“Is he ok?” Chaeha asked.
Jin sighed. “No. He’s running a fever.”
“Oh…what are we going to do about the rings?”
“We can have Tae carry them, I guess. Don’t you need to go get ready? We only have two hours.”
Chaeha nodded. “Will you be ok with him?”
“My dad is going to be here soon, so I can have him watch Kookie.”
——————–
The rest of the afternoon dragged on. Jin’s best man, his younger brother, nearly showed up late. Thankfully, he made on time to get ready. Kookie wasn’t happy about having to sit with Yoongi for the whole day. Tae and Jimin kept trying to run off, and Hobi and Joon were getting in quite the workout trying to keep them in sight.
The wedding, thankfully, went fine. Kookie was running down the isle nearly the moment it was over. Jin and Chaeha met him halfway, and Jin scooped him up into his arms.
They had about an hour until the reception, so that gave them some time to calm Kookie down. Jin’s younger brother, Seho, offered to run to the store and get some medicine.
Jimin and Tae were at least attempting to occupy themselves. It wasn’t going very well, though.
“I’m hungry,” Jimin sighed.
“You want a granola bar?” Chaeha offered. She’d purposefully brought a bag of them in case anyone got hungry.
Five minutes later, Seho was back with the medicine and Jin was trying to get Kookie to take it.
“It’s gross,” Kookie refused.
“Kookie, if you take it you can come eat dinner with us. If you don’t, you’re going to go take a nap,” Chaeha told him.
Kookie puffed his cheeks out but took the medicine willingly. He cringed. “Ew.”
——————–
The reception flew by without any complications. Kookie fell asleep halfway through it with his head leaned on the table, so Hobi took him back to the changing room to nap.
Joon kept an eye on the younger twins. They both wanted to dance, so he dragged himself out onto the dance floor with them. Seho, meanwhile, took his chance and asked Ambra to dance.
“I’m so glad your dad offered to watch the boys tonight,” Chaeha laughed as Jin spun her around the dance floor.
“I am too. I wish Seho was going to be here for longer, though. I never see him.”
“Speaking of Seho….” Chaeha nodded her head over towards him and Ambra.
Jin laughed. “Maybe I’ll get to see him more often.”
——————–
“Appaaaa, Eommaaa, I don’t want you to leave.” Kookie pouted as they headed for the front door that night.
Jin sighed and set his bag by the front door before scooping Kookie up and taking him back to his room.
“Tae, Jimin, it’s bedtime!”
“I don’t wanna go to bed,” Tae whined with emphasis.
“I know, but today has been a long day, and I need you two to cuddle Kookie so he can sleep.”
That had Jimin pouncing onto the bed. “I’ll cuddle Kookie!”
Tae was still standing in the doorway sulking.
“Tae, if you go to bed now, you’ll be up early tomorrow, and you can have fun with your brothers and Grandpa Yoonie.”
Kookie was already half asleep by the time Jin laid him down in the bed, and he cuddled up to Jimin almost immediately after being tucked in.
“Come on, Tae, if you don’t get in bed now, I’ll have to leave without tucking you in.”
Tae huffed and crossed the room to climb into bed. Jin pulled the covers up over him and ruffled his hair.
“All right. Goodnight, boys. See you tomorrow afternoon.”
“Bye, Appa…” Kookie mumbled.
Jin smiled. “Bye, Kookie. I hope you feel better tomorrow.”
Jin settled into the driver’s seat of Chaeha’s car a few minutes later.
“They’re all in bed?” Chaeha asked.
Jin nodded. “Yup. We can leave now.”
——————–
“Grandpa Yoonie!”
Yoongi was woken up the next morning by a violent shaking of his bed. He rolled over to find Kookie staring down at him with a big grin on his face.
“I see you’re feeling better.”
“Yup! I wanna make pancakes for breakfast!”
Yoongi looked at the clock. “It’s only seven, Kook. Why don’t you go back to bed?”
“But I’m not tired!” Kookie exclaimed and threw himself across the bed.
Yoongi sighed and sat up. This was what he got for agreeing to watch the boys.
“I wanna make blueberry pancakes!” Kookie pulled open the freezer and began digging around.
“What are you doing?”
“Appa always uses frozen blueberries in pancakes,” Kookie explained.
“I see.” Yoongi began rummaging through the cabinets for the pancake mix.
Jimin entered the kitchen a few minutes later. “What’cha making?” he asked as he pulled himself up onto one of the island chairs.
“Pancakes,” Kookie replied.
“When’s Appa gonna be home?”
“He’ll be back this afternoon, don’t worry,” Yoongi comforted him. “What should we do before then?”
“We should go to the water park!” Kookie exclaimed.
“The water park?”
Kookie and Jimin both nodded eagerly.
“Plllleaaase, Grandpa Yoonie?” Kookie asked, pouting.
“All right, we can go to the water park.”
“Yay!”
——————–
The boys were ecstatic to go to the water park. Hobi and Joon, not so much, but the younger boys were running around the house all morning in excitement. Jin rarely had time to take them to a water park.
Yoongi wondered how on earth Jin was still sane as he packed the bag to take with them. Clothes, towels, sunscreen, snacks…was he forgetting something?
When the boys were younger, he’d babysit them sometimes so Jin could go to work. But it had been a while.
Yoongi spent that afternoon chasing three little boys around at the water park. Hobi and Joon had asked to stay home, so Yoongi was watching the boys on his own. He gave up after nearly an hour and packed them all back into the car. He couldn’t wait for Jin and Chaeha to get home.
Thankfully, he didn’t have to wait long. They got back right after the boys had finished their bath. Kookie ran out of the bathroom completely naked when he heard the door open.
“Kookie! Why aren’t you dressed?” Jin asked, chuckling.
“It was bath time.”
“Bath time?”
“Mhm. Grandpa Yoonie took us to the park.”
“Oh really? Well, why don’t you go get dressed?”
“Ok!” Kookie ran off back down the hall.
Chaeha laughed. “Is this what it’s like to live here?”
“Oh, you don’t even know the half of it yet.”
Seeing my name in your story made my day!! And Kookie running around naked, too funny )
