In Our Next Lives – Chapter 50: Don’t Leave Me Yet

Taehyung ended up having Jungkook park the car in the garage.  It made way more sense to have one person go type the code in than to have all four of them try to get out and rush inside.  Once everyone was dry and warm – Taehyung lent Jungkook some of his clothes – Jungkook decided it was time to go home.  Sua was not happy.

“Jungkook, I just got comfortable!” she whined at him from where she was laying on the couch.

He sighed. “Sua, come on.  I’m sure Tae and Nia want some alone time.”

He scooped her up off the couch, and she slapped his shoulder in response.

“Fine then, when we get home, you’re going to collect me as many pillows as I need to lay down comfortably.”

Jungkook laughed. “Sure.  Now go get your shoes.  We need to get out of here before it starts raining too hard.  Driving in heavy rain isn’t the best idea.”

Sua groaned and dragged herself to the door after Jungkook put her down.

“Hey, Jungkook, I’ll text you later.  We gotta go out sometime,” Taehyung hollered.

“Yup!  See you later, man!  Have fun tonight!”

——————–

The bell over the door jingled as someone rushed inside the store.  Hyuna looked up for a split second before returning her gaze to the book on gardening she’d found in the back.

“Excuse me, do you have a public restroom?”

“Yeah, it’s in the back left corner,” Hyuna responded, throwing her hand up to point towards the back of the store.

A few minutes later the man was back again.

“Hey, you.”

Hyuna looked up.  And gasped when she realized who was standing in front of her.

“Jin?  What are you doing here?”

“I wanted to catch up, and I was looking for a place to hide from the rain when I remembered you said you worked here.”

“Why do you want to catch up, Jin?  We broke up nine years ago.”

“Yeah, well…I regret leaving you.  I was young and stupid.  When I graduated, I got a job offer down in Busan, and that’s where my grandma lived.  She wasn’t doing so well at the time, so I took the job and moved down there.”

“Jin, why didn’t you just tell me that?” Hyuna asked incredulously. “We could’ve made it work!  I could’ve transferred or something.”

“I didn’t want you to give anything up for me.” He shrugged. “I’m sorry I didn’t talk to you about it, but I knew I wouldn’t be able to handle long distance and I didn’t want to pressure you into moving.  I couldn’t do that to you.”

Hyuna sighed. “We could’ve even just taken a break or something…”

“I know, Hyuna, I’m sorry.  Ever since I left, I’ve thought about you every day.  I made a stupid mistake, but by the time I realized it, it was too late.”

“Is that all?  Are you not here to purchase anything?”

“Hyuna…”

“Just go look at the books, Jin.”
