In Our Next Lives – Chapter 57: Not-so-Secret Pasts

It was Saturday yet again.  It was now almost summer, and Taehyung had started working at home on the weekends to hang out with Nia and Jisung.  Jisung had become like part of their family overnight.  It had only been two weeks, but he’d already managed to wiggle his way into their hearts.

Nia was now uncertain when it would be a good idea to have a child of their own.  Of course, she really didn’t want to be pregnant at their wedding ceremony in November.  And they were still unsure if they’d be able to adopt Jisung.  They’d had no word about his dad yet, but again, it had only been two weeks.

Another thing was that Sua was due to have the babies in three or four months.  Then there would be three babies on their hands.  Nia sighed.  She was turning thirty-one in July.  It would probably be better the sooner she got pregnant.

“Jisung, I heard your birthday is coming up,” Taehyung commented as Jisung played with a few cars on the floor.

“Yeah.  I’m gonna be five!”

“Oh, wow.  You’re so old.”

Jisung giggled.  Nia smiled as she watched them.

“Oh!  Nia?”

“What is it?”

“Yoongi invited us out tonight, so I’ll be gone for about two hours.”

“Oh, ok.  I’m glad you’re making friends.  Have you thought about inviting any of them to the wedding?”

“Oh, yeah!  You’re gonna need another bridesmaid because I asked Jimin to be one of my groomsmen.”

“Moon will be thrilled,” Nia laughed.

“I’m sure.” Taehyung chuckled.

“She offered to watch Jisung if we still have him then.  I figured we’d be overwhelmed with everything, so I asked if anyone was up for it.  What do you think?”

“That sounds fine.  It’ll be nice to have one less thing to worry about.  I wouldn’t want to be chasing a kid around for an entire weekend with everything else we’ll have going on.”

“I figured.”

Taehyung found himself seated at a sports bar that evening with buckets of chicken everywhere he could see.  Jungkook had already eaten a quarter of a bucket when Taehyung arrived.

“Tae!  You’re late!  Yoongi was just telling us his story about his ex-wife.”

“You’re divorced?” Taehyung asked Yoongi, incredulous.

Yoongi nodded. “It was a business deal my father had set up when I was fifteen.  We were married for about a year before I decided I couldn’t handle her.  We got divorced about five and a half years ago now.”

“Is that why you’re working for Hobi?” Jimin asked.

“Yeah.  I left my father’s company and ended up at Jung Corp.”

“Speaking of Hobi, where is he?” Jungkook asked.

“Said he had work tonight.  I think he scheduled a business dinner.” Yoongi laughed. “Probably so he had an excuse for me to not drag him out of that office.”

“That’s something I can see him doing.”

“It’s all right.  I’m sure it’s awkward for him around me anyways,” Taehyung forced a laugh.

“Because of Nia?” Jungkook asked.

“Am I missing something?” Jimin inquired.

“Tae’s wife is Hobi’s ex-fiancé,” Yoongi explained.

“Oh…well that’s awkward.”

Yoongi shrugged. “I’m glad he at least came to dinner the first time.  It’s nice to finally have a group of guys to hang out with.”

“You’re telling me.  I haven’t had any friends since middle school.” Taehyung muttered.

“That’s a long time,” Jungkook winced.

Taehyung shrugged. “I guess I just kinda shut myself off.” He didn’t elaborate any further.

“Hey, you know what?  They’ve got some great beer here.  I’ll go get some.” Yoongi stood up and crossed the crowded place.
