A Little Taste of Suga – Chapter 5: Honey from Heaven

Yoongi smiled at her as her sweet words slid right into his heart, penetrating him with a comforting warmth that he hadn’t felt in a very long time.  Why was the corner of his eye leaking?  Perhaps a raindrop had gotten stuck in his hair and simply taken its time rolling down his head, only to appear next to his eye at this crucial moment.  He reached up to brush away the errant and unexpected tear.  He glanced down at the table where he had set his umbrella.   He had noticed she was lacking one.

“Can I walk you to your appointment?”

As she finished wrapping the remainder of her cinnamon roll in a napkin, she glanced up at him.  “Yoongi, that is kind of you, but it’s at least a twenty-minute walk.  I don’t want to keep you from any pressing engagements.”

“I have none.  And I have an umbrella.”  Picking it up off the table, he brandished it like a knight would a sword in the service of his lady.

She grinned.  “In that case, I’ll take you up on your offer.”

She was only too happy to be spending another half hour in Yoongi’s company.  She put the leftover pastry in her purse before she stood up, slinging her bag over her shoulder, as she prepared to follow him out of the shop.  Yet once again, Yoongi surprised her.  He opened the door for her and held the umbrella up over her head as she passed in front of him.  He followed her, shutting the door behind them.

It was only natural to want to slide his arm around her waist and pull her close; the umbrella wasn’t very big.  In order to both fit under the umbrella, they were going to have to move closer to each other.  He turned towards her at the same time that she pivoted towards him.  And his lips brushed her cheek.

He jumped back in surprise and exclaimed, “I’m so sorry!  I—,” but then he realized that they were both getting wet, so he stepped closer to her and pulled the umbrella back up over them.

She smiled reassuringly up at him.  “I’m not sorry.”

She could still feel the rush of heat that had cascaded through her when his lips had slid across her skin.  Shock had rooted her to the spot even as it had caused him to leap.  The resultant loss of the umbrella over her head had led to the raindrops now sliding down her face.  “Yoongi, can you put your arm around me?  I think that’s the only way we’re going to be able to navigate the rain without getting wet.”

He was the one standing immobile now.  He was fascinated by the raindrops sliding down her cheek.  Unconsciously, he transferred the umbrella to his left hand before he reached up with his right to touch her cheek with one finger.  He captured one raindrop on the tip of his forefinger, pulling it closer to his face to study it.  She too glanced down at the bead of water on his fingertip.  It appeared like a little, crystal globe.  Yoongi wished he could save it in a bottle or pocket it to take home for a momento of this very pleasing time in her presence.

Instead, he wiped it on his own cheek before sliding that arm around her waist and drawing her near to him under the shelter of the black umbrella.

“Which way?” he murmured in her ear.

She indicated that they walk back the way Yoongi had come, so he escorted her through the downpour, one arm snugly around her waist, the other holding up the umbrella over their heads.  He couldn’t help but reflect that he’d been given a gift from the heart of Heaven.  Honey from Heaven.
