Taehyung wasn’t too surprised to find Nia nowhere in sight when he came home that evening. He’d come home later than usual. The hair that had before reached his chin was now cropped to his eyebrows. He was glad to not be eating it anymore. Not to mention he had a far easier time seeing now. It was odd not to have to shove it behind his ear every second, though.
He crept upstairs to their room. He found Nia staring at the ceiling as she lay on their bed. He walked over to their bed before sitting down on it.
“Are you ok, honey?”
“No,” she whispered.
He reached for her hand, rubbing the top of it with his thumb.
“Do you need anything?”
She glanced up at him then, her eyebrows raising. “You cut your hair.”
He smiled and nodded. “Do you like it?”
“You look adorable, Tae.”
He pouted. “Just adorable? Not handsome?”
A small smile appeared on her face. “Yes, you look handsome too.”
He grinned, crawling into bed next to her and cuddling into her side.
“Don’t you want to change?”
“No. I want to snuggle my wife.”
She laughed softly. “Tae?”
“Yes?”
“Do you think…I should go see a doctor? Since my mom had five miscarriages? I just…can’t help but worry that I won’t have a baby since she had so much trouble with it.”
“Well, if there is something wrong, they’ll be able to tell you, right? And if there’s nothing wrong, you can at least set your heart at ease about that.”
Nia sighed shakily. “And if we can’t have kids…?”
“There’s other options. But I don’t want you to worry about that unless we’re told you can’t get pregnant, ok?”
“Ok….”

Nia swung her legs as she stared at the ground. She wasn’t sure what to expect today. She’d been so grateful the clinic had been able to squeeze her appointment in, but she was nervous that she’d be leaving with bad news.
“Nia! It’s been a while!”
Nia looked up to find Dr. Yang walking in. She smiled at the young doctor.
“How have you been? How’s your husband?” Dr. Yang asked as she sat down.
“Been better,” Nia admitted. “It’s been a rough month. How’s Chaewon?”
Dr. Yang shook her head. “Woke me up at five this morning. She’s been super hyper recently.”
Nia laughed softly.
“Do you have a specific reason you’re in here today? Your yearly isn’t until May, so I thought it was odd when I saw your name on my list.”
Nia took a deep breath. “Yeah. I had a miscarriage a week ago.”
“Oh, Nia, I’m so sorry.”
Nia shook her head. “I was talking to my mom, and she said she had five miscarriages. My friend said that sometimes people just miscarry without a real reason, but that fact that my mom had five….” She paused. “Should I be concerned?”
“Well, I could test you for Factor V Leiden. It’s a blood clotting disorder and can lead to miscarriage, and it can be passed on from family members, so it’s entirely possible that that’s the problem.”
Nia’s face went pale. “If I have it…, will I not be able to have kids?”
“Oh, no, you can still have kids. You’ll just have to be more cautious than someone without it would have to be. You’ll have to take injections, but I’ve had quite a few patients with it who have kids, so I’m sure it wouldn’t be too big a deal. Let’s not worry about that until we get the test results back, though.”
Nia nodded slowly. Maybe there was still hope.
