Quarter of a Century
24 Hours
Eileen was trying to sleep. But her mind kept going over the events of the last thirty hours. Specifically, the twenty-four hours leading up to tonight. The moments she’d spent, mostly alone, with Jimin. As her mind moved from one event to another, suddenly one particular scene vividly painted itself across the canvas of her mind. Along with it, Eileen kept feeling the gentle brush of Jimin’s fingertip against her cheek. She had memorized those strokes.
Now she set about finding the interpretation. She picked up her phone and looked up Korean characters. She had been more than a little curious about what he had written over and over again on her cheek. Her heart knew what it wanted him to have written. So she looked up the phrase in Google Translate. Then she sat stunned as she gazed at the confirmation of her suspicions. Of her expectations. Of her hopes and dreams. Jimin had really been telling her what her heart had been longing to hear!
She jumped out of bed. She had to paint it. She knew just how. She mixed her paints to portray the most beautiful sunrise she had ever seen. It was varying shades of pink and peach. And a glorious yellow. Then she painted puffy, purple clouds to form the Korean characters that spelled out Jimin’s beautiful message which he had brushed against her cheek again and again.
