Good thing he was sitting down. He felt weak in the knees. What was it about this woman? She had this effect on him that no other girl had ever had. He had this overwhelming compulsion to save her. And in the process, she was doing all kinds of bizarre things to his body and soul. He was reacting to her in completely unknown ways. Like the weak knees. And the wobbly heart. He sat in his car, simply staring down at her. She’d fallen asleep almost as soon as he had put her into the seat. He’d driven a long ways away, across the city, and pulled into a park. He’d been watching her ever since. She’d been asleep for nearly an hour now.
She was clearly exhausted. He really wished she’d take better care of herself. She hadn’t eaten in three days! No wonder she was so brittle yesterday! Did she do this often? Or was it just the stress of the last month that had driven her to starving herself?
She was getting thinner and thinner. He could clearly see it. He wanted to reach out and touch her. To draw her into his arms and never let her go. But she’d probably resist him. Or maybe claw him. He had a sudden crazy image pop up in his mind of her attacking his worldwide handsome face, permanently damaging it, ugly scars left by her sharp fingernails. Where did that insane thought come from? Julieta would never do anything that uncontrolled!
He gazed down at her beautiful face, relaxed now in slumber. The stress lines were lesser now. But she was still pale. Still fragile. Oh! He had to resist so strongly the urge to touch her. He shook his head. He couldn’t do it. He couldn’t resist. Not anymore. She was just too beautiful. His fingers had to have a taste of that soft skin.
He reached out one lonely finger and rested it against her ashen cheek. She sighed in her sleep and turned towards him. His heart caught in his throat. For a moment, her eyes fluttered open, and he caught a glimpse of those two round jewels, cool jade reflecting his surprise. Then her eyelids closed, hiding their precious gems from his sight. He sighed again, disappointed to have lost such a captivating view.
Why did he love her so? He had never been this serious around anyone before. He had not cracked one dad joke in her presence. Not one. Ever. And if there was anyone in his life who needed a good laugh, it was Julieta. But there was the sting. For some reason, she brought out his serious side. His protective nature. He wanted to weave a bubble around her to keep the big, bad world from scarring her ever again.
But he didn’t know how. She didn’t even like him anymore. She saw him as her enemy. How had they arrived here? He felt a tear forming in his eye. Ruthlessly, he brushed it away.
He needed to stop thinking about himself and instead figure out a plan to rescue her from all her foes. How could he prove what her father had never been able to prove? Maybe he couldn’t, but there were new crimes that had occurred after her father had been acquitted.
If it was true that Mr. Gonzalez had ordered the deaths of her parents, there must be some proof somewhere. And if Santiago had planted a spy in her office, then Jin would just have to catch the person in the act. Suddenly, he had an idea. At least one. This was going to require Jungkook’s help.
Jin picked up his phone and made a call. An hour later, Jungkook, Yoongi, and Tae arrived at Julieta’s office. Martina was overwhelmed by three beautiful, charming men who had come to video the offices in which they’d be creating new commercials in a couple of weeks. Tae expertly distracted the girl while Jungkook and Yoongi planted bugs and minuscule cameras around the offices, especially Martina’s. Tae even convinced her to give him a private tour of the facility. That’s how Yoongi overheard a most interesting voicemail being left on her office phone.
