Soaked

“Look, Bom!  It’s raining outside!” Kookie grinned as he held the little girl up to the window.

He was being very gentle, making sure her head was held upright.  It was pouring outside as the two of them looked out into the yard.  Usually, Kookie would have a soccer game today, but it had been cancelled due to flooding and lightning.  Kookie was perfectly happy to wander around the house with his sister in his arms.

The lightning had subsided, so Tae and Jimin had decided it would be a good idea to go outside and play in the rain.  Tae ran up to the window and pressed his lips to it before crossing his eyes.  Bom giggled.

“Tae, you’re silly!” Kookie yelled through the window.

Tae stuck his tongue out before running away.

“What are you guys doing?” Joon asked as he entered the room.

“Tae and Min are outside,” Kookie replied, pointing to the two boys running around in the rain.

“And what about this one?” Joon reached down to tickle Bom’s stomach, making her squeal and squirm.

“She’s watching the rain with me.”

Kookie glanced back at the window.  This time it was Jimin who was making a silly face near the window.  Joon walked to the door and opened it to tell the boys to come inside, but before he could get a word out, Tae tossed a bucket of rainwater at him.  After the initial shock wore off, Joon snapped.

“Tae, get inside and come mop the floor up!”

Tae giggled.  Having to clean that up had clearly been worth it to him.  He stepped inside the house a moment later, dripping water all over the already soaked floor as he went.  He pried his shoes off and tried to stick them on the shoe rack before Joon protested.

“Those need to go straight into the washer.”

Tae shrugged before walking to the laundry room.  After throwing his shoes in the washer, he dug through the cabinets for a towel.  Then he came back to dry the floor.

“Joon made the floor in the hallway wet too,” Kookie informed Tae. “You should probably dry your clothes too.”

“Nah.  I’m gonna go back outside.”

“What on earth is going on here?”

Both of the boys glanced up to find Chaeha standing in the hallway.  Tae grinned.

“Min and I were playing outside in the rain!”

Chaeha glanced down at the floor and sighed. “Just get the floor dried, please.  And then take a bath.” She opened the front door. “Jimin, get inside!”

Jimin was sprinting up the steps a few moments later, even more soaked than Tae was.  Chaeha sighed again.

“I left you guys for ten minutes to go shower.  What on earth were you thinking?”

“We wanted to play in the rain!” Jimin exclaimed.

“Take your clothes off and go run a bath.  I don’t want the hallway to get wet again.”

“Put your shoes in the washer with mine,” Tae told Jimin.

Chaeha took Bom from Kookie. “Can you go make sure all the floors are dried, Kook?  I don’t want someone to slip on the floor, and Tae might’ve missed a spot.”

“Ok!”

Hobi rushed inside a few moments later, soaking wet.  He’d just run home from work.

“Oh, hey Kookie,” he greeted when he saw Kookie on the floor.

“Hi.  Put your shoes in the washer.

Hobi laughed and pulled his shoes off. “Why are the floors wet?”

“Tae and Jimin were playing outside.  And Tae dumped a bucket of water on Joon.”

Hobi chuckled. “Did he?  Is Joon upstairs then?”

“Yeah.  I think he went to change.”

“Ok,” Hobi nodded as he walked his shoes to the washer.  Then he walked back into the living room. “Hey, Mom.”

“Hey there,” Chaeha laughed. “You might want to wait to shower until the twins are out of the bath.  They probably used most of the hot water.”

Hobi snapped his fingers. “Darn.  Guess I’ll have to play outside until they’re done.”

“You will not!” Chaeha exclaimed, throwing a box of tissues across the room at him.

Hobi laughed. “I won’t.  I do need to go change at least, though.  I didn’t think to take an umbrella with me this morning.”

“Clearly.  Dry your hair, too.  Tae and Kookie worked hard to get the floors dry.”

“Yeah!  You’re dripping all over the floors again!” Kookie exclaimed, motioning to Hobi’s soaked shorts.

“I’ll dry the floors again, Kook,” Hobi promised before running upstairs.  It was a good thing they had hardwood floors.

The twins were drying their hair ten minutes later after their bath was done.  Kookie ran down the hall to see what they were doing when he heard the blow dryer running.

“Can I try it?”

Jimin turned the dryer around and hit Kookie in the face with a blast of air.

“Hey!”

Tae laughed. “Dry my hair, Min!”

Jimin turned the dryer to Tae’s head.

“Turn it down!  It’s too hot!” Tae yelled over the loud motor.

“What?”

“Turn!  It!  Down!”

Jimin turned the dryer off. “What?”

Tae shook his head back and forth, spraying water all over the mirror. “No more blow dryer.”

Kookie laughed. “Are we making lunch now?”

“We should eat cereal for lunch.”

“We can’t eat cereal for lunch!” Jimin protested.

“Yes we can!” Kookie and Tae replied at the same time.

Jimin curled his lip in disgust. “That’s not lunch food!”

Tae shrugged and left the room.

“I think you’ll change your mind when you start eating it,” Kookie told him before following Tae.

Jimin turned the blow dryer on again to finish drying his hair.

Chaeha was in the kitchen with Bom when the boys returned to the living room.

“Should we order lunch?” she asked as she closed the fridge.

“Ooo!  Can we get pizza?” Tae asked.

“I suppose we can,” she nodded. “What do you think, Kookie?”

“Yeah!  I want pizza!”

“Ok.  Go ask your brothers what kind of pizza they want.”

Both of the boys were down the hall practically before Chaeha could finish speaking.

“Joooooon!  Hoobiiiiiiiiiiiii!  What kind of pizza do you want?” Tae yelled up the stairs.

——————–

Half an hour later, four pizzas were on the kitchen table and the boys were digging in.  Jin had work today, so he was nowhere to be seen as the boys stuffed pizza in their faces.

“Your chicken pizza is nasty!” Tae told Joon and Hobi after taking a bite from it.

“Don’t eat it then, silly,” Joon laughed.

Tae took another bite just to spite his older brother.  Then he wrinkled his nose and spit it out.

“Tae!”

The eight-year-old laughed.

“I want to try the chicken pizza!” Kookie exclaimed.  He took the piece of pizza that Tae had been eating and took a bite of it. “Ooo!  That’s good!”

“See, Tae, chicken pizza is good!” Hobi laughed.

Tae shook his head. “No, it’s not.  It’s nasty.”

“Let me try it,” Jimin volunteered.  After he’d taken a bite, he concluded: “It’s good.”

Tae shook his head. “You’re all wrong.”

“Don’t worry, Tae, I think pepperoni is good too,” Kookie grinned.
