In Our Next Lives – Chapter 88: A Fancy Hotel

Thursday the eleventh rolled around soon enough, and Nia was running through the airport trying to find a certain seven-year-old.  She’d agreed to keep an eye on Minseo for the first day of the trip because Haeju and her husband couldn’t make it until the next day, and Hobi was coming with them.

“Minnie!  What on earth are you doing?” Nia asked the girl standing in front of the vending machine stuffing coins into it.

“I wanted a snack.”

“You need to tell me next time.  You just ran off without telling me where you were going.”

“Ok.”

Nia sighed, turning around to walk back to their terminal once Minseo had gotten her snack.

“They really don’t tell you how hard it is to have triplets,” Sua sighed as Jinri wiggled against her chest.

Jungkook was pacing the floor with both boys attached to him.

“Are you sure you don’t want me to take one of them?” Taehyung asked.

“It’s fine.  The two of them balance each other’s weight out,” Jungkook assured him.

“Is there a reason Jimin isn’t here yet?” Moon asked.

“He and Ms. Oh are finishing up some work at the office today,” Taehyung replied. “They’re coming tomorrow.”

“You’re making them work?” she gasped in outrage.

“No!  They wanted to stay behind!”

“Sure they did.”

Nia smacked Moon in the head with a water bottle. “You know him.  He wouldn’t make them work this weekend if they didn’t want to.”

A flight and a bus ride later, they’d arrived at the hotel.  Jiwoon was wailing as they got off the bus, and Moon had offered to take Jihoo.

“How about we all just take a nap for now?” Nia suggested. “We don’t really have anything we need to do as a group until tomorrow morning.”

“I think a nap is a good idea,” Sua sighed. “Especially for these three.”

Jinri took this as her queue to join her brother in crying.

“Naptime usually starts at two.”

“That would explain why they’re so fussy,” Moon nodded.  Jihoo was perfectly happy to pull on her nose, though.

“Are we doing anything for dinner tonight?” Jungkook asked as he collected their bags.

“There’s a few places inside the hotel we can eat, I think,” Taehyung replied. “Or we could go out, but I doubt you guys want to do that.”

Jungkook laughed. “Yeah, no thanks.  Maybe we can talk dinner once the triplets are asleep?”

“Sounds good.”

Moon was going to explore the hotel for the afternoon, and she took Minseo with her, leaving Taehyung and Nia to wind down in their hotel room by themselves.

“My goodness this room is huge!” Nia exclaimed as she tossed herself down onto the mattress. “We always would stay in little hotels with futons when we went to Andong.”

Taehyung laughed. “I remember that.  I went with you guys for Anjeong’s wedding.”

Nia raised her eyebrows. “You did?”

He smiled. “Yeah.  Your parents made us sleep on opposite sides of the room, remember?  We had a little tea ceremony in our hanboks outside, too.”

She grinned. “I remember!  I wonder if my mom still has those.  She spent so long making those before that trip.”

“You know, I kinda miss high school, honestly,” he admitted as he laid back against his hands.

“I wish I could remember more of it.  What was I like in high school?  To you.”

“You were really cute.  You were really quiet, though.  I had to do most of the talking when we were first together.  Your hair was so long back then, too.” He glanced over at her. “You look the same, though.  You’ve still got those tiny little freckles on your cheeks.”

“You’ve noticed them?”

“Of course.”

She giggled. “Well, I’m enjoying life now, I think.”

“Are you?  That’s good,” he muttered as he rubbed his thumb over her cheek.

She gave him a teary smile. “It’s going to be ok, right?”

“Yes, sweetheart, it’s going to be ok.”
