Kindred Spirits – Chapter 5: Jungcookies

“Actually, I’m looking for someone imperfect,” Daniela whispered in his ear a moment later.

“What?” Jungkook swung his head towards her, and his lips almost brushed hers.

She practically jumped backwards she was so surprised.  She’d felt his breath pass over her mouth.  Her heart was pounding in her chest.  She took a deep breath before plunging ahead.

“Can you imagine what it would be like to date a paragon of virtue?  An impossibly perfect individual?  Or even, to be friends with one?  I’d feel like my flaws were highlighted by his perfection.  I would be so nervous around him.”

Jungkook’s eyes had fallen to her pretty lips again.  “Are you nervous around me?” he murmured while he stared at her exquisite mouth.

“I am right now,” she answered forthrightly.

Startled, his eyes flew to hers.  “You are?  Why?”

“Because you were looking at my lips.”  She blushed. “Now I feel self-conscious.”

“I was looking at one of your own perfections.”  He grinned as his eyes began to sweep over her face.  Cheekily, he continued, “I bet I can find more.”

Embarrassed, she responded, “I thought you didn’t like the word perfect.”

“I find that when it comes to you, it doesn’t bother me in the least,” he uttered softly.

She must have turned bright red by now.  She studied the toe of her shoe until the line moved forward.

“Ahhh.”  He frowned in disappointment.  “You’re hiding my favorite feature of yours from me right now,” he whispered in her ear.

He wasn’t sure why he was teasing her.  Often, he was rather shy around girls.  But this one drew something different out of him.  He wanted to provoke her into smiling at him.

She glanced up at him.  “What?”

“That’s better.  Now I can see them.”

“See what?”

“Your beautiful eyes.”  He stared deeply into those shining pools.

Mesmerized, Daniela returned his gaze.  She could feel her cheeks flushing.  She must be radiating heat like the sun now.  Jungkook was provoking her!  Was he doing it on purpose?  If so, why?

She decided to play with him a little.  She glanced away from him.

“Do they have any Kookies?” Daniela asked teasingly as her eyes swept the glass cases surrounding them.

“Any cookies?  Yeah, that whole section over there.” He pointed with his free hand.

She pointed at him.  “No.  I meant, any Kookie?  Any Jungkookies?”  She laughed, sending her dimples dancing.

Momentarily, those deep wells in her cheeks distracted him.  He had just discovered another point of her perfection.

“They have a Kookie now!”  She grinned at him as she poked his chest with her index finger.  Then she sniffed as she looked back at the counter.  “I’m surprised they don’t have a whole case of BTS cookies.  Including some Jungcookies!”

He snickered.  Stranger things had happened!

“It would be weird to eat my own face,” he commented.

She giggled.  “I’d want to take that Kookie home and frame him. There’s no way I could eat a Jungcookie.”

His smiling eyes met hers.  They began to chuckle together.

“Any idea what you’d like to try besides cheesecake?” he asked a moment later.

She shook her head.  “I’m overwhelmed.  So many things look good.”

“I can order an assortment of my favorites, if you like.  And you can try them all.”

She nodded.  “Sounds good.”  Then she grinned.  “As long as there are no Jungcookies in the mix!”
