She couldn’t breathe. He had stolen all her air. And now her heart was racing like the wild stallion that had nearly trampled her a moment before. His soft lips were moving gently over her own, stirring all sorts of crazy feelings up in her torso. She felt like a host of butterflies had just taken flight in her stomach at the same time her heart had begun to turn somersaults in her chest. And where their lips touched, it appeared she’d been struck by lightning. Over and over again. Little darts of electricity were sliding along every single nerve in her body.
She was drowning under all these new sensations. Her queenly demeanor of a few moments before had instantly fled the moment his lips had touched her own. She grappled for her sanity. Finally, she came to her senses and shoved her hands against his chest with all her might. To no avail. It was like trying to push a well-mortared stone wall over. He didn’t budge, not one inch. In desperation, she moved her head violently to the left, tearing her mouth out from underneath his own. He sighed in disappointment as she gazed over at his horse placidly chewing the grass growing on the other side of the path.
Her hands were still pushing against his chest. Now he noticed, and he loosened his vice-like grip. She stumbled backwards as he let go of her abruptly. She tripped over a stone in the path and nearly landed on her rump.
Jin watched as the beautiful girl went flying backwards. He lunged forward and grabbed her by her upper arms, dragging her up against the safety of his strong chest as he wrapped his arms tightly around her once again.
“Excuse me? I’m here to help. Are you staying too?”
Huh? Jin shook his head as he was brought abruptly back to reality by the gentle melody of Eunjeong’s voice. He blinked at the lovely girl standing on the other side of the counter at the rice cake shop.
“Uhhh.” He hadn’t been planning to stay. He’d been prepared to return home and make Jimin some kimchi soup, but now as he looked at Eunjeong, he didn’t want to be anywhere else. “Do you think you could use some help? I could stay for a while.”
Just then several customers entered the shop.
Eunjeong turned towards him. “Yes. Please stay.”
“I’m Jin, by the way,” he spoke quietly as they were mobbed by the incoming customers. Unfortunately, in all the resulting noise, she didn’t hear him.
He shook his head. So much for being bold and brash. He’d been given a chance, but he had failed to sweep her off her feet.
Would Jimin best him after all?
