Yun sat on her bed, peacefully reading her book. She was so glad she had had the luxury of learning to read. All the other female servants and maids in the palace couldn’t read a word, so Yun supposed it was the same outside the palace as well.
The book she was reading now was about a prince who ran away with his servant girl because his parents would not permit him to marry her.
“Yun!” Jimin exclaimed, throwing her door open.
“Dear Lord, Jimin! Don’t do that! What if I’d been changing?”
An odd look passed over Jimin’s face before he cleared his throat and continued his previous train of thought. “Are you ready to go?”
“Where?”
“Did you forget again? We’re meeting Jungkook to go horseback riding!”
“Oh. That was tonight?”
Jimin sighed. “Someone needs to buy you a calendar of some sorts. You never remember what day it is!”
“I know what day it is! Our prince was crowned king today!”
Jimin sighed again. “Just. . .get ready.”
——————–
It wasn’t long before Yun and Jimin were walking through the entrance to the stables. Jungkook was already brushing his horse’s mane, telling Honey about his day.
“Jungkook, is your life really so boring that you have to tell your horse about it?” Yun asked.
“Hey! Honey loves hearing my stories!”
“About what? Standing at the palace gate all day?”
Jungkook shook his head and sighed, changing the subject. “Are you wearing pants again? That’s not very lady-like, you know.”
“I keep telling her that!” Jimin exclaimed. “She won’t listen to me!”
“Do you two honestly think I care about being lady-like? I don’t care one whit about it!”
“Then why do you want to marry the prince – er – king, hm?” Jungkook nudged Yun in the ribs. “You know you’ll have to wear royal robes, right?”
Yun rolled her eyes. “I do NOT want to marry him.”
“Yeah, sure,” came Jungkook’s snappy response. “Now, let’s get going. General Lee said we have to be back in before eleven.”
“What? Since when?”
“Since last night. He turns in at eleven thirty, and horses have been disappearing during the nightly rounds, so he wants to make sure they’re all in before he leaves.”
“They’ve been disappearing?” Jimin asked.
“Yeah. We’ve had, like, ten or something disappear so far. And they only disappear during the night.”
“Hmm, strange,” Yun commented.
——————–
Yun sighed as her horse trotted after Jungkook’s and Jimin’s. Jimin had been droning on about a subject that was unknown to Yun at this point. She hadn’t been listening. She was instead thinking of all the possible outcomes her book could have.
“Hey! Yun! You there?”
“Hmm?”
Jungkook sighed. “We need to get back to the palace soon. It’s almost eleven.” He said, pointing to his pocket watch.
“Right.”
It wasn’t long before they were back in the stables again, Jungkook putting the horses up for the night. When they finally exited the stable, it was pouring rain outside. The second they stepped out of the stable they were soaked, their boots sinking into the mud. Jimin shook his head.
“I knew those clouds were not a good sign.”
“Great! Now I have to take a bath before bed!” Jungkook exclaimed. He took off for the knights’ quarters, hoping to get there before his boots were ruined. Jimin and Yun shared a glance before taking off for their quarters as well.
