The Sole of Kindness – Chapter 12: Almost

He laced his other arm around her as he slid off the bed to stand next to her.  The fingers holding her wrist dropped to her hip.  Her stomach dipped.  And her heart flew upward like it was riding a rocket into outer space.

Why was she suddenly so nervous?

His eyes met hers then.  And she knew why she was so anxious.  Yoongi looked like he was going to devour her.  She swallowed.  She had never been this close to a guy.

He drew her closer.  Until their chests bumped.  Was his heart beating out some crazy tattoo too?  Was that why hers felt like it was drumming its way out of her chest?  Because she could actually feel his mirroring heartbeat through the thin fabric of his shirt?

She glanced down at it and placed her hand over his heart.  Just to make sure.  But she couldn’t feel anything.

“You do have a heart, right, Yoongi?” she breathed as she glanced down at her own breast to see if her heart was leaving an imprint on the wall of her chest.  “Please.  Have a care with mine,” she whispered huskily.

You are my heart,” he whispered as his head bent near her ear.

His warm breath flowed over her skin, and she shivered.  All the sensations he’d set off under her skin in the past seemed amplified today.  But it was his words that had lit the strongest fire.  The one that began melting her.

Her eyes lifted to meet his.  She fell in and began drowning in those mesmerizing depths.  They drew her closer to him.

“Your eyes are so beautiful,” she murmured, lost in her affection for him.

“Not half as lovely as yours,” he breathed.

But it wasn’t her eyes he was after now.  He glanced at her lips and lowered his head.  She lifted her face towards his.  When their mouths were a hairsbreadth away from each other, her phone suddenly rang.

They jumped apart.  And her heart sank.  So did his.  The moment was lost.  To them both.

She picked up her phone and gasped.

Yoongi’s head came up.  “What?  What is it?”

“It’s my appa.”  She held her finger to her lips as she answered the phone.  “Hi, Appa.”

She paused as her father spoke.  She nodded her head a moment later.  Then she responded.

“But, Appa, he’s really a sweet guy.  Didn’t you see how he defended me when his appa picked on my job?”

“I did not like the way he touched you,” her father’s voice was loud enough this time that Yoongi clearly heard it.  “And it was obvious that he was inebriated.  I don’t want you getting involved with a drunk.  I’m pulling out of his father’s business deal too.  Anyone who could raise a son like that is not someone I want to work with.”

Yoongi closed his eyes.  This was all his fault.  Because he had decided to be a rebellious jerk.  To thumb his nose at his father.  Who might have deserved it.  But as he opened his eyes and saw the devastated look on Nari’s face, he knew she didn’t deserve it.

He was going to have to find a way to make this right.  And he knew exactly what his first step was going to be.
