Busan Team of Sleuths – Prologue

It was a dark and rainy night in Busan.  The leaves swirled around on the ground ominously, as if to say something was off; it was only early September.  But all was well in Busan.  The house that held seven young men was oddly loud for the midnight hour, however.

“What are you guys doing?  This kitchen is a mess!” Jin, the oldest of the seven roommates, exclaimed as he ran into the kitchen.

The scene that greeted him was ridiculous: two of his youngest roommates, Jimin and Taehyung, were throwing flour and powdered sugar everywhere.  They were covered from head to toe in it, almost blending in with the equally white kitchen.  Even Jimin’s bright red hair appeared almost white in its coating.

“It’s for a case, I swear!” Taehyung exclaimed.  Taehyung was a private detective, so he often did strange things at strange hours.  But this had to be by far the strangest thing he had done.  And Jin couldn’t take his snow-white face seriously.

“What would any of this have to do with a case?”

Taehyung sighed. “It’s a long story.  Supposedly someone choked from inhaling too much flour while having a food fight.  I’m trying to figure out if that’s actually possible.”

“You’re going to risk either you or Jimin choking just for a case?  That’s bogus.”

Taehyung thought about that for a second. “Yeah, you’re right.  I’ll just go research it.” He glanced down at himself. “After I take a shower.”

“And clean the kitchen,” Jin said sternly.

“We’ll shower first, then clean the kitchen,” Jimin replied.

“All right.  But if it’s still a mess out here when Jungkook gets home, you two are finding you own food for the next week.  I won’t feed you anything I cook.”

The two of them nodded before rushing out of the kitchen.

Out on the back deck, two of the older roommates, Hoseok and Yoongi, were eavesdropping on the conversation.

“Are we ever going to tell Tae that the case is fake?” Hoseok asked.

“Eh, this is fun, watching him be stumped.  Let’s keep it up for a bit.”

“Fine.  But if he gets any serious cases, we’re telling him so he can let it go.”

Yoongi looked at him. “Ok, but you’re going to be the one that tells the con artist that his job is over.  He was so excited to play part in a fake case.”

“But-”

“No but’s.  We either keep it up, or you’re telling the guy.”

Hoseok sighed. “Fine.  We’ll keep it up…”
