“Jungkookie…nothing looks good on me.”
Jungkook had to disagree. So far Kaylee had looked good in everything she’d tried on. How could someone have perfect vision and still be so blind?
“What do you mean? You look great in that!”
Kaylee sighed and glanced down. She was wearing a pair of ripped jeans and a t-shirt.
“But it makes me look fat.” She frowned, tears starting to pool in her eyes.
“No, it doesn’t,” Jungkook pulled her over to a mirror. “Look,” he poked her side gently. “It hugs your curves nicely.”
“But I don’t like being curvy…I want to be skinny.”
Jungkook hugged her from behind and rested his chin on top of her head. “I don’t want you to be skinny, though. I like you being huggable.”
Kaylee smiled, although it looked more like a grimace through her tears. “Thanks, Kookie.”
“Why don’t you go find something you like? I saw you eyeing those sweatpants earlier. Do you want me to go get them while you change?”
Kaylee wiped the tears off her face with the backs of her hands and nodded. “Ok.”
While Kaylee tried on another outfit, Jungkook went to find the sweatpants she wanted. When he returned a few minutes later she was staring into the mirror outside the changing room and frowning at her reflection. She was wearing a pair of loose shorts that went down mid-thigh and a tank top.
“Man, I look really bad in this…” she mumbled. She wiped a tear from her eye and was about to head back to the changing room when she saw Jungkook.
He set the sweatpants down and pulled her into his arms. She instantly hugged him and burst into tears.
“K-Kookie wh-why can’t I look good i-in anything?” she sobbed into his shirt.
“But that’s not true…you look good in a lot of things.”
“Don’t lie to me, Kookie.” She whispered in a small voice.
“It’s true.”
She broke into a fresh set of tears. How had she found someone so precious? Who truly believed she was beautiful? She knew she didn’t deserve him. He was too good to her.
Jungkook kissed her forehead. “You wanna try on the sweatpants? Then we can go.”
She nodded. A few minutes later, Jungkook dragged her out of the store. He would be making her avoid any reflective surface for the rest of the day.
They walked a few blocks down to Starbucks, hand in hand. Kaylee felt a bit better now that they weren’t in a shop with many mirrors to critique her.
Once they were inside, they ordered. Kaylee ordered a vaniila frapuchino and Jungkook ordered a caramel macchiato. They waited a few minutes for their drinks to be made before finally settling down at a table to sip their drinks.
“I shouldn’t have taken you clothes shopping today, I’m sorry.”
Kaylee frowned. “Kookie…it’s ok.”
“Are you sure?”
Kaylee nodded quickly. “Yes, its not your fault that my self-esteem sucks…” She looked down at her drink and stirred it quietly.
“Do you want to do home now?”
Kaylee nodded. “Yes, please.”
After a short walk home, they took off their shoes before Jungkook suddenly scooped Kaylee up and took her out to the living room. He sat on the couch before settling her in his lap.
“Ok, princess, what would you like to watch?”
“I don’t care…can we go sleep instead?”
“Of course.” He kissed her forehead before sweeping her off to their bedroom. He laid her in bed and turned off the lights before joining her.
“Nap time?” he chuckled.
“Yes…nap time.”
