When the crowd had finally left, Namjoon turned towards Breeze. She was still sitting on the blanket, her nose in her phone. She’d pulled the hood of her oversized sweatshirt up over her head and had attempted to hide under it. It was pretty effective. He couldn’t see her eyes. Only the sharp slope of her nose, her lovely lips, and her cute chin were visible.
Jungkook had thrown himself down on the blanket, his legs drawn up in front of him, his arm resting on his left knee. Then he noticed the picnic basket. He grabbed it and opened it, his grin growing wide as he pulled three bags of Turtle chips out.
“Yoongi!” He yelled before tossing one to his target.
Yoongi caught it and smiled before popping it open and sticking one into his mouth. Jungkook tore into his bag and began crunching away with Yoongi. They sounded like they were composing a noisy, new song.
Jin stood looking down at the basket. “Were you expecting an ARMY, Namjoonie?” He put extra emphasis on the word ARMY and raised his brow suggestively.
Tae squatted to grab bags for him and Jimin. “Wow! Did you know we were coming?”
Namjoon shook his head. He glanced at Breeze and sighed, “All my dreams up in smoke.”
She laughed. “Joonie thought he was going to get to eat them all himself!”
“What? He didn’t give you any? Joonie!” Hobi’s voice was full of rebuke.
“No!” Breeze was quick to defend him. “He gave me mine first!” She held up one lonely bag.
“Really, Kim Namjoon, you could feed the poor girl more than that,” Jin responded in his most fatherly voice.
Breeze laughed again. “One was more than enough!”
Jungkook glanced over at her as he popped two more chips into his mouth before opening a can of Sprite. “What? You didn’t like them?”
“No, they’re good! I’m just not that hungry. Namjoon’s eomma made us an amazing dinner!”
Six pairs of eyes somehow found each other in the darkness.
“She’s met your eomma?” Jimin reacted, looking up at Namjoon, who was still standing, looking like the impressive leader he was. Everyone else had sat back down to recover from being assailed by an ARMY of admirers.
“Your eomma cooked for her?” Now Jungkook was jealous.
Namjoon smiled at them all. “There will be plenty of time for questions later.”
“When?” Jungkook sobered. “I think we should keep this between the seven of us.” He glanced at the others, thinking of Hyejin. He still hadn’t told them about her. He had only reported that a friend’s pet had to be rushed to the doctor on his birthday, explaining his absence from his own birthday party.
“Yes. She has to be kept a secret, you know?” Yoongi’s soft voice pierced the darkness with wisdom.
Namjoon sighed. “We know.” He was looking at Breeze, and she nodded.
