When I looked at the Halloween pictures BTS posted today, I told a fellow ARMY that Jungkook was wearing the wrong costume because Hobi had taken his. Another ARMY said that was because Namjoon had stolen Hobi’s. I came up with an alternate theory about why Hobi was wearing Jungkook’s bunny costume. And my friend said I should write a fan fic about it. So here is the silly result of that suggestion. I hope you like it. I wrote it in about a half hour. So I’m hoping it isn’t too ridiculous!
Jungkook opened his eyes to a brand new day. A bright one. He had slept far past his usual waking hour. As the light of a happy sun streamed through his window, he suddenly remembered what was so special about today. It was October thirty-first. Halloween.
He grinned, and his adorable chubby teeth reflected the light of that cheerful star. Today was going to be a fun day. He had a playful photoshoot to look forward to this morning.
He rolled over and glanced at his Halloween costume. He and all his friends had decided to dress in white sheets as ghosts. But with a twist. Each of them would wear a pair of sunglasses over their ivory faces.
He smiled at his bunny glasses. He had found some special sunglasses with a pink nose, two chubby white cheeks, and pink bunny ears attached to the top. He was planning to wear them with a red bowtie. All of ARMY knew him as the bunny. He didn’t want to disappoint them this year, so he had spent a long time searching for the cutest rabbit glasses.
After he had dressed for the day, he wandered out to the kitchen. Leaving his ghost costume and its fun glasses behind. They were just waiting for him to return later and don them for the photoshoot.
His friends had congregated to enjoy pumpkin hotteok.
“Ooh, hotteok!” he exclaimed as he shoved a piping hot Korean pancake into his mouth.
He smiled with bliss as he swallowed his first bite. But his grin faded as he noticed Hobi. His normally sunny friend was staring mournfully at the ground.
Chomping on the meager remains of his hotteok, Jungkook crossed the room towards Hobi.
“Hey, Hobes, what’s wrong?”
Hobi lifted sad eyes to him. He shrugged. “Nothing.” But his eyes traveled across the room to land on Namjoon.
Frowning, Jungkook followed his gaze.
Hmm. Is Hobi upset with Namjoon for some reason?
If he was, this was a rare day. It seemed that Jungkook would need to solve a mystery this morning. His thoughts were interrupted by their fearless leader.
“Guys, we need to assemble downstairs for the photoshoot in half an hour. It’s time to head that way and get our hair and makeup done.”
Jungkook’s eyes traveled up to Namjoon’s rebellious locks. What exactly was going on with them this morning?
“I think, Joonie, that you should head that way first,” Yoongi spoke softly as his open palm landed to rest atop Namjoon’s shoulder.
Namjoon reached up to run his fingers through his short blond locks. “I know. I’m not sure what’s going on with my hair today. When I woke up this morning, it seemed that World War III had been launched on my scalp.”
As he pulled his hand through his golden hair, its troops seemed to stand at attention making him appear even more ludicrous. Jungkook glanced at Hobi and noticed that he was still frowning at Namjoon.
Just then, Jin picked up his black sunglasses off the kitchen table and put them on. They reminded Jungkook of the little paddle the optometrist had him hold to cover one of his eyes while he took his eye exam.
Jin was dressed in a white shirt and black trousers. Jungkook watched as he pulled on a black blazer. He picked up his orange jack-o-lantern basket and headed for the door. Yoongi, like Jungkook, was looking cool in all black.
“Wait a minute. Yoongi, weren’t you going to wear the plain black sunglasses?” Jungkook asked his friend.
Yoongi shrugged and slid the red star glasses on. “It’s okay. Jin grabbed them off the table before I could.”
Tae, spying this conversation through purple hearts, wandered over to Yoongi. “Here, Yoongles. Wear my purple hearts. I’ll wear the red stars.”
Yoongi glanced down at his friends’ burgundy sweater. “Are you sure, Tae?”
“Absolutely.”
“Thank you. I purple you, my friend,” Yoongi rumbled as he and Tae traded glasses. Yoongi slipped the purple hearts up over the bridge of his nose.
“Here,” Tae shoved his purple pumpkin bucket at Yoongi. “You should hold this too.”
“Really?”
“Yeah. If I’m not holding it, then my hand will be free to do this.” He held his left hand up in the shape of a V, as his thumb and index finger cradled his chin.
Yoongi chuckled and clutched the purple pumpkin close. “Thanks, Tae. You look great.”
“No,” Namjoon interrupted them. “Tae, you need to wear this vest.”
Jungkook grimaced as his eyes took in the vest covered in blue swimming pools. Namjoon slid out of it and helped Tae don it.
“Don’t forget the orange jack-o-lantern crown,” Jimin reminded him, plopping the diadem onto the top of Tae’s head.
As his eyes took in Tae’s colorful display, Jungkook recalled the reason he didn’t let his friends help him dress. He preferred monochromatic wardrobes. All black. All white. Maybe some red. Definitely not blue pools and orange pumpkins.
Jungkook studied Jimin’s outfit too. Clad in a sweater embracing shades of green, blue, and purple, he had apparently decided to be a rainbow bumblebee today. His black-and-yellow-striped sunglasses even sported a pair of antennae. But the green leaf resting on the top of his head was the only clue to his affectionate nickname. Jimin was their Baby Mochi. Where was James Cordon when they needed him to appear with Jimin in a holiday photoshoot?
Jin led the way out into the hallway. Yoongi, Tae and Jimin followed closely on his heels. Jungkook glanced at Namjoon before he turned to head out the door. He was wearing a white sweatshirt with a dark gray hood and matching white sweatpants. But it was his tie and sunglasses that jumped out at Jungkook. Namjoon had clipped on a yellow tie. It matched the sunflowers framing his eyes like two happy sunbursts crowning his countenance. Jungkook frowned. Shouldn’t Sunshine be wearing those? As Namjoon, walked out the door, Jungkook turned his attention to Hobi.
His normally cheerful friend was leaning against the kitchen island while he drew lines on the floor with the toe of his shoe. He was wearing black pants with a long gray shirt.
“Hey,” Jungkook called to him softly, “Hobes, did Namjoon take the costume you wanted?”
Slowly, Hobi met his gaze. He nodded.
“Why didn’t you say something to him?”
Hobi shrugged. “He looked so happy; I didn’t want to disappoint him.”
“But you’re our Sunshine. Namjoon knows that.”
“It’s okay, Jungkookie. I can wear the smiling jack-o-lantern sunglasses.”
“No, you absolutely cannot. You’re going to wear my bunny costume.”
Hobi’s eyes grew wide as a blanket of shock covered his face. “No, Jungkookie! You’re the bunny!”
“Not this year. This year, you get to be the cute bunny.” Jungkook shrugged out of his leather jacket and draped it over Hobi’s shoulders. “Here. Put this on. Everyone knows the bunny is cool. I’ll be right back.”
A few moments later, he returned to the kitchen with his sheet, the red bowtie, and the bunny glasses. He put the bowtie around Hobi’s neck before settling the bunny glasses on his face. Jungkook stepped back to study his appearance.
Satisfied, his face split into a wide grin, releasing the glories of his chubby white teeth. “Perfect.”
A tremor of vulnerability flowed across Hobi’s face for a moment. “Thank you, Jungkookie,” he whispered.
“Any time, my friend,” Jungkook slid the orange pumpkins up the bridge of his nose and grinned to match their semicircle smiles. “Any time. What’s a bunny between friends?”
I can definitely see him being this attentive to the othersa
