A Rainy Night – Chapter 3

It was early morning, and neither Tae nor Jisu had slept through the night very well.  Jisu woke up sneezing or coughing more than a few times in the middle of the night, and Tae hadn’t avoided her sudden outbursts very well.  Jisu was now lying on top of Tae’s chest, desperately trying to fall back asleep.  It wasn’t going too well.  She couldn’t breathe through her nose, which was giving her trouble in her attempt to fall asleep.

“Are you all right, jagi?” Tae asked softly.

“I can’t fall back asleeb…” Jisu sniffled.

“Ah.  Do you want me to go get you some medicine?”

“But that woulb mean you woulb hab to leab me…”

Tae grinned.  She sounded so small when she was sick.  He loved it.

“All right, I won’t leave you.” He tightened his arms around her.

She sighed contently and buried her face in his chest.  But that tickled her nose slightly, and she brought her head up again, letting out a loud sneeze.  Right in Tae’s face.  She cringed.  He sat still for a moment, and then he burst out laughing.  He looked at Jisu, who was crimson in embarrassment, trying to calm his laughter.

“W-why are you laughing?” she asked.

He grinned at her, showing off his two perfectly imperfect rows of teeth. “Because it was funny.”

“Oh…” Jisu sniffled again.

Tae smiled, gently grasping her chin and kissing her cheek.  His smile turned to a frown.

“You’re still warm.”

“Well, I didn’t sleeb a lot last night…”

“Hmm…Let’s get you some medicine, then.”

Jisu sighed but reluctantly nodded since she was too tired to argue.  Tae slowly maneuvered out from under her, climbing out of the bed and wrapping her in the comforter.  He brushed her bangs aside, kissing her on the forehead tenderly.

“I’ll be right back, jagi.”

She nodded softly, her eyes having fluttered shut in ecstasy when she felt his lips on her forehead.

Tae headed out to the kitchen, digging through the cabinets for the medicine.  Where was it?  He paused his search for a second, feeling a strange sensation overtake him.  And then he sneezed explosively.  Oh no…he better not be sick too!  He hoped Jisu hadn’t heard him sneeze, knowing she’d be worried and insist she take care of him despite her condition.  He quickly turned his attention back to the cabinet, digging through it a bit more until he finally found the medicine bottle.  He placed it on the counter and went over to the sink, pouring a glass of water so Jisu could swallow the pills.  He then took the water and the bottle of medicine back to their bedroom.  He found Jisu cuddled into the blankets on the bed, curled up into a ball and shivering.  He couldn’t tell if she was asleep or not, so he tiptoed slowly over to the bed, trying not to make a lot of noise.  But then he sneezed again.  Jisu’s eyes popped open tiredly.  Whoops.

“I got you sick, didn’t I?”

“What?  No…”

Jisu frowned. “Don’t lie.  I sneebed on you more times than I can count last night.” She was still stuffed up.

“I’m fine, jagi–” His attempt to reassure her was foiled as another sneeze erupted from his sinuses.  He groaned and rubbed his forehead.

“I give up.  Just take the medicine, please.” He motioned towards the nightstand where he had set it down.

Jisu sighed and sat up, reaching for the medicine bottle and taking out two pills.  She quickly downed them with the water.  Then she grabbed Tae’s arm and pulled him down into bed with her.

“Can we snubble now?”

Tae smiled and nodded.  He lay back against the bed, pulling her down on top of him until she relaxed against his chest.  She pulled the blankets over the both of them.

“Taehyung-ah.”

“Hmm?”

“Are you sure you’re feebling ok?”

“Mhm.”

Jisu didn’t think much of his short responses.

“All right.” She snuggled into his chest, her eyes fluttering closed.
