Christmas Chaos – Chapter 2: On the Road

Jungkook looked back at his little 2-year-old, who was bouncing up and down in the back seat of the car.  They’d been on the road for about two hours now, and Yumi was sound asleep.  Jungkook loved road trips.  They were always peaceful and fun.  It was rare that they were in a car for very long, so it was always nice to just drive for hours on end.

“Appa, can have snack?” Junseo asked.

“Not right now.  You’ll have to ask Eomma when she wakes up.”

“Ok,” was Junseo’s gentle response.  Then he went back to playing with his toy car.

Jungkook laughed and looked back out at the road.  There was no one for miles now.  Just the three of them.  He smiled out at the fields slowly passing by.  He couldn’t wait to get to Jin’s house, but part of him wanted to just drive forever.

——————–

Hobi was trying to buckle one of his triplets into his carseat.  The little 6-month-old was squirming around, giggling.

“Hyungmin, quit squirming, you silly.”

The little baby clapped his hands and grinned.  Hobi laughed.

“Come on, I have to get your brothers in their seats too.”

Hyungmin kicked his legs, but stopped moving enough to let Hobi keep buckling him in.

A few minutes later, Hyungmin was in the car and happily punching the starfish that hung from the handle of his carrier, so Hobi returned to the house to get Hojin.

Twenty minutes later, all three babies were in the car as well as all the suitcases and the toys for the boys.  Ireun sat in the back so she could feed the boys and play with them.  This was an experiment to see how well the boys would do on car trips.  They were a bouncy bunch at home, so it would be a miracle if they stayed calm on a 4-hour road trip.

——————–

Jin was rushing around the house trying to get everything ready.  All his friends would be here in a few hours.  He was so glad he had the space to house all them in the house his dad had given him.  It would be even better if they lived closer, but they had all moved back to where their family was after college, so most of them lived nowhere near each other.

It was amazing how they’d all stayed friends after college.  Especially considering they weren’t even all in the same year.  They were all married now, and most of them had kids.  Jin wasn’t sure how good of an idea it was to get 10 little tiny kids together in one house, but the seven of them hadn’t gotten together for Christmas since Namji had been born, and that had been five years ago.  Now he had two younger siblings.

Jin folded towels as he thought.  He and Jimin were the only ones left without kids.  Jimin had just gotten married last year, so Jin supposed it made sense that he didn’t have kids yet.  And Jin, he wanted kids, sure, but he wasn’t sure that he was ready for them yet.  He wasn’t sure his wife was ready either.  Aeja liked kids, but she wasn’t sure if she wanted her own.  So, they weren’t thinking about having kids yet.

Jin knew this reunion could either make or break their decision to not have kids yet.  He wondered how bad it would be to get so many small kids into one house.  Most them were under one as well, so he hoped they weren’t constantly being woken up by babies crying.  They all hadn’t seen each other in a long while, so it would be nice if they all got a decent amount of sleep while they were here.
