Christmas Chaos – Chapter 3: Reunion…Sort Of

Tae and his family were the first to arrive.  He appeared at Jin’s door with a suitcase in one hand and Xia in the other.  She was whining and hiding her face in Tae’s shoulder.  Tae looked down at her before looking back up at Jin.

“Do you have any snacks she could eat?  She just woke up from her nap, and food usually puts her in the right mood again.”

Jin laughed and led them inside.

“Aeja has work until four, and then we’re gonna start dinner at five.”

“What are you making?”

“I thought we could make some dumplings tonight since there’s so many of us.  What do you think?”

“That sounds good!” Tae commented as Jin handed Xia a cheese stick.

Xun, Tae’s wife, walked into the kitchen a moment later with a baby carrier on her arm.

“Hi Jin!  How have you been?”

Jin laughed.  Xun was always straight to the point. “I’m good.  Aeja has been trying to convince me to move out of here, but I think it’s a good place to live if we start getting together this often.”

Xun smiled. “Where’s our room?  I’d like to put Min’s carrier and our suitcases away.”

“Now hang on!  You can’t just walk into my house with a baby and not let me see him.”

Xun laughed and set the carrier down on the kitchen table before pulling back the top of it.  Jin looked down at the tiny baby bundled in blankets and smiled.

“Wow!  He’s so big already!”

“Min?  Big?  No, he’s tiny!” Tae laughed.

“Well I don’t know about you but to me he looks pretty big for a baby who’s only a month old.”

“Mmm, true.  Xi was still a tiny bean when she was his age.”

Namjoon and Yeongjin showed up next with their three little kids in tow.  All three of the kids were bouncy and excited by the time they were out of the car.

Hajun was the first to get to the door.  He’d run ahead of everyone else and was eagerly knocking on the door when Jin opened it.  Hajun gave Jin a dimpled grin before running inside.  Ara came running up the sidewalk a moment later.

“Juuuuu!  Wait for me!” she ran right past Jin and into the house.

Namji came next, waddling up to the door.

“Hi, Uncle Jin!”

“Hi, buddy.  Are your ma and appa getting the suitcases?”

Namji nodded.  Then he followed his siblings inside.  Namjoon dragged two suitcases up the sidewalk a moment later.

“You need help there?” Jin asked.

“Sure.  These are heavy,” Namjoon laughed.

Dinner was beyond chaotic.  Jungkook, Yumi, and Junseo didn’t arrive until nearly six, so they missed eating with everyone else.  Tae and Namjoon were already out back helping Namji, Hajun, Ara, and Xia make snowmen.  Everyone else was in the living room playing with the babies.  Oreun was clinging to the coffee table to keep herself standing up while the triplets played on the ground.  Taemin was sound asleep on Xun’s chest.

Junseo wanted to go outside the second he saw what was going on out there.  He was jumping up and down in excitement.  But Jungkook informed him he had to eat first before he could go outside.

Everyone turned in at eight that night.  They were all exhausted from the long car rides that day.  Most of the kids went out fast.  Xia and Junseo weren’t having it, though.  Xia started jumping on the bed, which in turn woke up Taemin.  Who started crying.  Tae took Xia out to the living room.  Tonight was going to be a long night.
