A Date Night and a Movie Night

It was a normal day in the Kim house.  Well, just about as normal as it could be with five rowdy boys.  The three youngest ones were fighting over who was jumping on the trampoline first, and the older two were at the dining table finishing their homework.  Jin entered the kitchen at five having just returned from work.

“How do you two feel about babysitting tonight?”

Hobi looked up from his homework with a skeptical look on his face. “What, are you going on a date?  You never go out!”

Jin nodded. “Um…yup.”

Joon took his earbud out and looked at Jin. “You’re going on a date?!” He looked shocked. “With whom?”

“Ms. Jung.”

The twins looked at each other.  They had suspected something was going on when Ms. Jung had come over on Christmas, but they hadn’t expected this to take so long.  It had been three months now.

“Yeah, we’ll babysit,” Hobi replied. “When are you leaving?”

Jin glanced at the clock. “In half an hour.  I’m gonna go shower.  You guys can make pizza for dinner and I’ll be home at eight.”

Hobi and Joon were already back to doing their homework. “Ok, Appa,” they both responded.

Half an hour later, Hobi and Joon were chasing the three younger boys around the house.  Jin rarely left the five of them home alone except for the couple hours after school most days, but when he did, Hobi and Joon tried to make it a fun night.

“What do you guys want to watch tonight?” Joon asked as they ate dinner.

“Wanna watch Avengers!” Kookie exclaimed.  Both younger twins nodded enthusiastically in agreement.

So, after the kitchen was clean and everyone was full of pizza, the five boys started collecting pillows and blankets to make a fort.  Hobi and Joon shoved the two couches together, far enough apart to drape a few blankets over and fit all five of the boys under their ‘fort.’  Once the fort was made, it was time to watch a movie.

Jimin requested making popcorn, so Hobi made it while Joon set up the movie.  Kookie, Tae, and Jimin went to get their blankets and stuffed animals while the movie theater was being set up.

Soon enough, the popcorn was made, and the movie was ready to play, so the boys all crammed into their fort and started the movie.  It was already almost seven, so the movie wouldn’t be over until around nine-thirty.  Maybe a movie wasn’t such a good idea, but if the younger boys fell asleep, they could always just take them to their bedroom.

Jin returned around eight as he said he would.  Kookie was already dozing off by the time he got home.

“You guys are doing movie night without me?” Jin asked in mock disappointment.

“Would you like to join us in here?  It’s a bit cramped,” Joon informed him.

Jin laughed and shook his head. “Have you guys had fun tonight?”

“I think so,” Hobi replied. “Did you have fun?”

Jin chuckled. “As much fun as one can have at the lake, yes.” He looked down at Kookie. “You want to go to bed, Kookie?”

The small boy nodded his head.  Jin scooped him up off Hobi’s lap and took him back to his bedroom to get him ready for bed.  Once Kookie was in bed, Jin joined them to finish the movie.

By the end of the movie, both Tae and Jimin were asleep.  Jin scooped Tae up to take him to bed, and Hobi followed with Jimin.  Joon cleaned up the fort mess while they were getting the twins ready for bed.

Joon, Hobi, and Jin all gathered in the kitchen once the little boys were in bed and the living room was clean.

“Are you gonna take her on another date, Appa?” Hobi asked.

“Are you guys ok with that?”

“Eomma left a while ago.  And Ms. Jung is really nice.  I think we’d all be ok with you dating her.” Joon replied.

“Good.  Because I think this isn’t going to be our only date.”

Joon and Hobi shared another glance.  As disappointed that they were that their eomma wasn’t going to return, they were glad their appa had found someone again.
