Injeong awoke in an empty bed. She glanced over at the clock. Well. It was five pm. No wonder Jin wasn’t in bed. She crawled out of bed and wandered to the kitchen. Jin was cracking eggs into a pan as he hummed to himself. He looked up as she entered the kitchen.
“Hi there, sleepy head.” Jin chuckled. “I didn’t expect you to be sleeping when I got home.”
Injeong rubbed her eye and sat down at the island. “I was just really tired today.” She looked down at the pan. “What are you making?”
“Fried eggs. I’m making it to go with our rice and vegetables.”
“Ohhh.”
“Are you feeling all right?” Jin asked suddenly, rounding the counter so that he was in front of Injeong. He placed his hand on her forehead. “Hmm. You’re not warm. Do you feel sick at all?”
Injeong shook her head. “No. Just tired is all.”
“All right.” Jin returned to cooking. “Did you do anything interesting today?”
Injeong shook her head. “Not really. I worked on my drawing a bit…and watched some Netflix…and then I slept.”
Jin looked her up and down. She was wearing his drab gray sweatshirt. She looked so cute. She absolutely drowning in it. She was much, much tinier than him. He grinned and looked back down at what he was cooking.
Injeong rested her elbows on the counter and set her head in her hands as she watched him cook. Once Jin was done cooking the eggs, he plated them with the rice and sat next to Injeong at the counter. He scooped up a bite of rice with a spoon.
“Open up.”
Injeong giggled and opened her mouth, gratefully accepting the food as Jin slipped the spoon into her mouth.
“Is it good?”
Injeong nearly choked on her food as she laughed. “Jin. Your food is always good. You know that.”
Jin shook his head. “No. Surely there’s something I made that wasn’t good.”
“Nope! Everything you’ve made was good! It’s why I married you, you know that!”
Jin chuckled. “It wasn’t for my handsome face?” he asked, resting his chin between his index finger and his thumb.
Injeong smiled. “I suppose that was just a bonus. A good cook and handsome? It’s so rare!”
Jin returned her smiled and bent down to peck her lips. “Ok. Now you need to eat.”
He held up a bite of food to her lips again. She giggled and let him feed her until the plate was empty. Then he finished his food and cleaned up the kitchen.
“Do you want to go lay down and watch a drama?” Jin asked.
Injeong nodded. “Sure.”
Jin smiled and scooped her up off the stool. She squeaked.
“Jin!”
“What? A prince must carry his princess.”
Injeong giggled. Jin carried her up the stairs to their bedroom and laid her in the bed. Then he crawled into bed next to her. He reached for the remote and turned on the TV before cuddling up next to her.
A few minutes later he looked down to find her sound asleep, her head laid on his shoulder. He smiled softly and shifted her so that she was under the covers. Then he bent over and kissed her forehead.
“Goodnight, princess.”
