Beautiful Girl: A Poem for Lena

You are such a beautiful girl.

You light up the whole wild world.

With your majestic, sweet smile.

Won’t you come sit for a while?

Wanna watch the sunset with me?

Wanna take in all God’s glory?

Though the light of that bold star’s dying rays

Can’t compare to the glory of your face,

Still, we could sit and enjoy the beauty

Of the brilliant sun’s last daily duty.

Let’s watch it paint the sky in gold and pink.

And you can tell me what you really think.

Because I believe that God has inscribed

His beauty on your magnificent mind

Like He displayed splendor in the heavens,

Not just hiding grandeur in the sevens.

Though the rainbow unfurls His elegance,

Your wondrous eyes speak of His eloquence.

So may you see His love for you, sweet light,

Reflected in the heavens’ skies tonight.

May every twinkling star reveal His heart.

That from you He never wished to depart.

May the majesty of the midnight deep

Carry you off to a calm, peace-filled sleep.
