Chasing Your Face – Chapter 10: Crash and Burn

Word count: 0.6 K

By the time Saturday rolled around the plan had been finished.  Except that there was one thing they hadn’t planned to work around…

Tae rolled over in bed.  He felt horrible.  It felt like someone was stabbing him in the head.  He reached for his phone.  Usually he’d hate calling, but he was too exhausted to text.  He opened his contacts and hit speed dial on Mina’s number.

Mina answered the phone as soon as it started ringing.  Why was Tae calling her?  He never called.

“Hel-”

Mina was cut off by the loud hacking coming from the other side of the line.

“Mina…I think I’m sick.”

“You think?  Tae.  I can hear you coughing your lungs out.  You are definitely sick.”

“Ugh…” Tae sniffled. “What are we gonna do about the amusement park though…?”

Mina grinned. “Actually…” She glanced around to make sure that Nina was not around. “This might work in our favor.”

“What do you mean…?” Tae let out a harsh cough.

“I can tell Nina and Jimin they’re going by themselves because I’m coming over to take care of you.”

Tae sighed. “All right.  I think Jungkook and my mom are still home so they can let you in when you get here.”

“Ok.  I’ll be there in twenty minutes, ok?”

“Ok…bye.”

——————–

“…what?”

“I’m going over to Tae’s house because he’s sick.  You and Jimin are going to the amusement park by yourselves.”

Nina sighed. “Do you have to go to Tae’s house?  Why can’t you come with us?  It’ll be so awkward…”

“It’ll be even more awkward with me there.  You’ll be fine.” Mina waved her hand dismissively. “Now.  Jimin is picking you up in half an hour, and I told Tae I’d be at his house in twenty minutes…ten minutes ago.  So…bye!”

Nina pouted as Mina slung her bag over her shoulder and rushed out the door.  Today was going to be horrifyingly awkward.

——————–

Mina showed up at Tae’s doorstep ten minutes later, exactly as she had promised.  She knocked on the door and waited a few seconds before the door was opened by a very tired looking Tae.  His cheeks were flushed a dark red and a pout was plastered to his face as he stared down at her.  He also had a blanket wrapped around his shoulders.  She stepped inside and swung the door shut behind her.

“Where are Jungkook and your mom?”

“They left…” he leaned down suddenly to cough into his elbow.

Mina reached up and gently placed her palm on his forehead. “Did they know you’re sick?  You’re burning up!  Go sit down on the couch, ok?  I’ll go make you some tea.”

Tae just nodded in response, quickly heading to the couch before collapsing onto it.  By the time Mina returned with the tea he was sound asleep.

She shook her head and smiled.  But then she frowned.  How had he gotten this sick so quickly?  He had been fine yesterday.  She headed back out to the kitchen to find a washcloth.  She returned to the living room a few minutes later with a wet washcloth and laid it on his forehead after brushing his bangs to the side.

He was snoring softly.  But he was also shivering.  She looked around for another blanket.  Once she found one, she returned to the couch and draped it over him.  She sighed.  She hoped Nina and Jimin’s day was going better.
