Chocolate Kisses – Chapter 18: Two Wrongs Don’t Make a Right

Jin unexpectedly found himself alone with Sherry when Yoongi took off with May.  As he drove her to her hotel, he wracked his brain for something to say to her.  He was coming up with nothing.  So he concentrated on the road before him.

He was still embarrassed that he’d caused her to face-plant into the carpet at the restaurant earlier tonight.  At least there had been carpet.  It would have been so much worse if the floor had been hard.

He turned towards her.  “Are you ok?”

Puzzled, Sherry looked up at him.  “What?  I’m fine.”

“I mean, did I hurt you earlier tonight when I knocked you onto the floor?”

“Oh, that.”  She was trying to forget that.  She was still mortified that she had fallen down and been flattened by Jin in front of the entire band and all their friends.  “It’s nothing,” she dismissed it.  Though, it hadn’t been nothing.  It had been embarrassing.  But Jin had been very sweet all evening.  He’d made her laugh several times too.  “Let’s just forget it happened.”

“Agreed!” he responded, a little too hurriedly.

She glanced sharply over at him.  He’d been appalled.  He was still feeling bad.  It was obvious from his reaction just now.

“Hey,” she responded, wanting to set his heart at ease.  She reached over and touched his hand, which was resting on his knee.  “I’m ok.  Really.  I know you didn’t do it on purpose.  And I know you were as embarrassed as I was.  Let’s just forget it ever happened, ok?”

Jin stared down at her hand for too long.  It’s just that it was sending vibrations down into his hand.  It was shocking him, and he wasn’t quite sure what to do about it.  He looked up a second too late.  Their car bumped into the car in front of them.  Lightly.

Shocked, Jin slammed on the brakes.  His eyes swiveled towards Sherry as his hand flew out and hit her across her collarbone.  It was a reflex.

“Are you ok?”

Her eyes wide, she blinked before responding calmly, “Once again, I’m fine.  Are you ok?”

Jin reclaimed his arm and nodded as he threw the car into park. He opened his door and climbed out.  The driver of the other car was already out and examining his bumper.

“I am so sorry!” Jin offered.

The other man responded, “I don’t think there’s any damage.”

Jin pulled out his phone and turned on the flashlight.  Together, the men examined both cars thoroughly.

Sherry sat in the car wanting to hide.  This time the accident had been her fault.  If she hadn’t touched Jin on the knee – what had she been thinking? – he wouldn’t have looked down, and he wouldn’t have hit the car in front of them.  She sighed.  Were they just a disaster in the making?
