Chapter 10: A Dream Come True – November 7 – 8, 2020
She was trembling beneath him. His touch, his breath, his voice, his words — they were all undoing her.
“Jin,” she gasped, “you already have. You stole my heart long ago. It’s always been firmly held in your grasp. I never loved Seungbin. I was deluded. I was deceived. I was enticed. But I never loved him.
“I would lie in his bed at night and dream of you. Of your tenderness. And your kiss.” She began to cry. “And the life we could have had together if I hadn’t been so stupid.”
“We can still have that life together, Yura. It’s not too late.”
She glanced down at her son. “I used to pretend he was yours. Even while I still lived with his appa.”
Her eyes met Jin’s.
“Is that a yes?” he whispered, holding his breath.
Her eyes tangled with his own. His caressed hers even as his thumb stroked her cheek.
“You’re driving me mad, you know that, don’t you?” she countered.
He furrowed his brow. “What?”
“Your fingers on my cheek. You’re sending a million volts of electricity down into me.”
“Good. I’m going to take that as a yes. And up the ante.”
He bent his head and began to brush his lips along her throat and across her shoulder. She was wiggling under him by the time he was done.
“Enough, Jin! It’s not nice to tease a girl this way, and then demand she wait to bed you until she’s married you!” But her voice was teasing him. “You have no idea how hard that is.”
His eyes grew serious. “Don’t I, now?”
She swallowed. A sober expression had invaded his eyes. But it was setting her on fire. Stealing her breath. As he had long ago stolen her heart.
“Yura?”
She blinked.
She was so adorable. Staring up at him all wide-eyed and innocent. Like she’d never been a married woman. He could almost believe she was still a maiden.
His heart released a pang. How he wished he could go back in time and steal all the pain from her existence! Just blot out Seungbin and all the damage he’d inflicted on her precious soul and her beautiful body.
Jin bent his head and murmured, “I hope you get pleasantly plump when my child grows within your belly. I don’t want a skinny wife. At least, not when she’s carrying my baby. I’ll make you all the chocolate mousse you can eat.”
He lowered his head infinitely slowly to brush the bridge of his nose along hers. Then he began to ravish her mouth again. She gave in to him and deepened that kiss as she slid her hands up and down his back, reveling in the feel of his skin under her fingertips.
“Marry me,” he murmured against her lips again. Then they found their way to her throat once more.
After a few breathless moments, she laughed and answered, “Okay, okay! Uncle, uncle! I give in! I’ll marry you!”
Ecstasy burst through his body like an atomic bomb carrying joy had just been released from his heart. He chuckled. “Finally.”
Then his lips found hers again. And played her a tune she had long desired to hear.
—
He came to see her the next day.
“Don’t say I didn’t warn you,” he greeted her as she opened the door to her apartment.
She glanced at the big box on the floor next to him. Her eyes narrowed in suspicion. “Jin? What is that?”
She looked down at it before her gaze met his once more. “I told you: no more presents.”
He just blinked at her and intoned dryly, “Really? Yura, have you met me? Do you think that’s even remotely possible?”
She giggled and shook her head, curiosity getting the better of her. She backed up. Tilting her head back. “Come on in.”
“Is Minhyuk awake? Or is he napping?” He glanced around as he towed his big box into her living room.
“Mr. Jin!” The little boy came flying into the room.
His eyes grew round as saucers as he stared at the huge box.
“What is it, Mr. Jin?” he breathed in wonder.
Her heart flew into her mouth because she had a sudden vision of him calling Jin, “Appa,” instead of, “Mr. Jin.”
Jin smiled at her son. “It’s a present for your eomma.” As an afterthought, he murmured, “And your little sister.”
Minhyuk scrunched up his cute, little face. “But I don’t have a sister.”
Jin leaned down towards him and picked him up. “Not yet, you don’t.”
His eyes met hers, and her heart accelerated. “Open it, Yura.”
She swallowed.
“You feeling okay today?” he asked her suddenly.
She nodded and smiled at him. “I’m fine.”
“What are you waiting for then? Don’t you want to know what I got you?”
She did. So she knelt down in front of the big box and began to pull the wrapping paper off of it. She felt like Jin was making up for the last five years. Seungbin had never bought her a single present. Not even an engagement ring. She’d purchased their wedding bands herself.
She gasped in wonder as she looked at the picture on the box. “It’s not! You didn’t!”
Her eyes flew to his.
“I told you I’d buy you a house.” He grinned at her.
And the years rolled away again.
They’d been shopping one day for a present for her little cousin. The girl had been about to celebrate her fifth birthday. As they’d wandered down the toy aisle, Yura had suddenly stopped. Mesmerized by something.
“I always wanted one,” she had breathed forlornly. “But Appa wouldn’t buy me one.”
Her eyes had wistfully traced the outline of the little dollhouse.
“This one is much more magnificent than I ever dreamed.”
Now, she stared into Jin’s eyes as tears filled hers. “You bought me a dollhouse?”
He winced. “I couldn’t find the one you wanted. This was the best I could do.”
She flew at him. Throwing one arm around him and the other around both him and her son.
“I love you, Jin! With all my heart!” she cried out as tears flowed down her cheeks. She lifted her face and planted her lips against his own. “And I will marry you! Any day!”
He chuckled as his arm embraced her. “Today?” he murmured against her cheek. Then he gave her an Eskimo kiss.
“Yes,” she breathed.
“I’ll go tomorrow and apply for a marriage certificate.”
Breathless, she stared up at him. “You’re serious, aren’t you?”
He nodded.
“We both have to go,” she murmured.
“Then, let’s set a time, and we will.” Pausing, he frowned. “But you deserve a fancy wedding, and they take time to plan.”
“Jin, I don’t need a fancy wedding. I just need you.”
His heart melted. He bent his head and brushed his lips across hers again. “I’ve got it! Let’s get married on Valentine’s Day.”
She smiled. “That’s just perfect.”
“Eommmma! Stop kissing! Open your present!”
She giggled as she stared at her irate four-year-old.
“Yes, sir!” she saluted him. Her eyebrows flew north. “Wanna help me?”
“Yeah!” he shouted and wiggled his way out of Jin’s arm.
Together, Yura and her son joyfully tore all the paper off the box. Jin watched them with delight. He had so much to look forward to in the coming years. Filling their lives with pleasure. He couldn’t wait to get started.
I remember the doll furniture my grandpa built for me when I was a child…. I still have it
