Chapter 36: Chocolate Kisses – October 24, 2025
The next afternoon, Heejin and Yunseok visited the doctor together. They received some welcome news. As they stepped from the doctor’s office to head home after her sonogram, Heejin turned towards her sweet husband. She’d been quiet during her appointment, but now she finally spoke. Hesitantly.
“Are you okay with a girl? I know you wanted boys.”
Yunseok pivoted to smile down at her. “Nah. Girls are wonderful. I’m resigned to it now. I’ve been surrounded by females my whole life. I won’t have to make any adjustments at all to fit a little girl into our lives.”
He beamed down at her, his joy inescapable now. “We’re having a baby girl, Heejin! Our very own little cutie pie.” Then he bussed her soundly on the lips.
A moment later, she murmured against those sweet lips, “So…how are you going to tell your sisters that they’re finally going to get the niece out of you that they’ve been expecting for years?”
“I know just the thing.” His eyes twinkled as another huge grin transformed his face in response to her question.
Several hours later, Heejin and Yunseok stood knocking on the door of his family’s mansion. A moment later, Jungkook opened the door. He welcomed them happily and led them towards the kitchen. The whole family was eating dinner together tonight.
After Heejin’s mother arrived, as they all gathered around the mammoth dining room table, Yunseok dropped a bag on the plate in front of Yunseong. “Hey, baby sister,” he greeted her, “I’ve got a project for you to do.”
Surprised, Yunseong glanced up at him. “A project? What are you talking about?”
He riveted his gaze on the bag but failed to speak.
Taking the hint, she opened it. With a puzzled frown darkening her countenance, she reached in to pull out some pink yarn and knitting needles. Then she glanced up at him in consternation. “Wha––?”
But her question was drowned out by her twin’s sudden laughter. “You’re having a girl?!” Yunyeong exclaimed. “Finally! Now I can tell everyone that I have nieces! No longer singular – niece. But plural – nieces!”
“That’s right,” Yunseok grinned. Then he addressed Yunseong. “It’s time to get busy knitting us some baby booties. Your niece is due in March.”
Yunseong’s face lit up. “This is so amazing! Do you realize our babies could be born around the same time?”
Heejin nodded her head. “I wonder if you’re having a girl too…”
“I just hope she doesn’t have her hands too full,” Tae murmured as he glanced down at his wife in concern. Himchan will only be about sixteen months old when the next one comes. He glanced over at his adorable daughter before continuing, “And Seulgi is already a bit of a handful.”
Yunyeong giggled. “Just like her eomma.”
Yunseong shot her a dirty look. “Hey!”
“No, no,” Tae muttered, “your sister is right. You are definitely a handful.” He twinkled at her as she sent him an irritated glance too. “A delightful handful,” he continued as his eyes caressed hers.
“All right, you two. Knock it off! We can easily see why you’re about to be the father of three children, Tae!” his mother-in-law rebuked him lightheartedly.
Everyone laughed.
A few hours later, Yunseok pulled his car into the parking lot of their favorite chocolate shop. Heejin glanced up in surprise. “What are you doing?”
“I’ll be right back,” he mumbled before jumping out of the car.
A few minutes later, he returned carrying a box of chocolates. In the shape of a baby bootie. He slid into his seat and handed her the treats.
“For you, my sweet. I know this little eomma must be craving chocolate.”
Her face lit up with delight. “You know me so well,” she laughed.
She took the lid off the box. A sudden puff of air escaped her lips as she gazed down at the tiny truffles.
“Seok! They’re all baby themed. Look,” she held one up, “it’s a teddy bear!” Her eyes lit up again as she set that one back in the box and grabbed another. “And this is a onesie! How cute! And this one is a rocking horse. Oh! These are too adorable!”
“Just like you, my love. Just like you.”
He watched as she popped one into her mouth. He might just have gotten a very sweet kiss a moment later.
