January 6 – Epiphany
A knock sounded on her door the next morning. April grunted and rolled over in bed. She was in the midst of a marvelous dream. Tae had come to see her again. And brought her hot chocolate and cinnamon rolls. His boxy smile was wrapping around her with an endless comfort. And definite joy.
But then his face dissolved as another loud knock broke the silence of her apartment. And her eyes flew open. She jumped from her bed. Mostly from habit now. And took a step towards the door.
She opened it a couple seconds later to greet the happy face of her old friend.
“Tae!” she gasped.
“Happy Epiphany!” he beamed as he held up a tiny white box.
She gazed quizzically up at him.
“Well? Are you going to open it?”
She nodded and reached out to accept his gift. She pulled on the white ribbon securing the lid to its matching box. She withdrew a snowy velvet jewelry box. And glanced up in surprise at him.
“More jewelry?” she queried.
“I was going to buy you a set of teardrop earrings to match your pendant, but then I saw these last night, and they seemed much more appropriate,” he murmured mysteriously.
Her eyebrows quirking, she popped the lid open and gasped as her eyes traced the tiny, shimmering snowflakes.
“Your amethyst collection is complete,” Tae pointed out. “You now own all three crosses. But I think every girl deserves something new. Something truly valuable. And rare.”
“Like the freshly fallen snow,” she mumbled as her eyes shone in the sparkle set off by dozens of tiny diamonds.
“Exactly,” he grinned at her, sending her heart soaring.
“They’re beautiful, Tae,” she breathed.
“I think I like it when you call me Tae,” he murmured sweetly.
She smiled up at him. “Do you want to come in…or do you need to go?”
He heard the tremor in her voice. She was a little melancholy. He could feel it. She’d appeared genuinely surprised to see him this morning.
“You didn’t think yesterday was the end, did you?” he murmured as he gazed down at her.
She nodded her head. “I did.”
“Nah. This is just the beginning.”
“Of what?” she queried with a furrowing of her lovely brows.
“Of a beautiful friendship.”
Oh noooo… The end…. Too soon
Is this the real end?!?!
