Hidden – Chapter 5: Good Friends

Lucia smiled at him, then the theater suddenly went completely dark for a few moments before the movie began to play.  In the dark, her eyes searched for the outline of his face.  She was still leaning towards him.  She lowered her hand back into the popcorn tub.  She couldn’t see him at all.  Her fingers fumbled with several pieces of popcorn.  She drew them into her mouth.  She chewed, her eyes finally connecting with Yoongi’s countenance as the movie screen began to light up.

Lucia sat back and concentrated on the screen.  But half her brain was still on the man sitting next to her.  She had always felt that if she knew him they would be good friends.  She found herself daydreaming about sitting down with him over a slice of apple pie.  Talking the night away with Yoongi.  Tackling the world’s problems and picking his brain.  Her thoughts were more interesting than the movie playing out before her eyes.

She blinked as the lights came on.  Was the movie over already?  She glanced around.  A moment later, Yoongi met her eyes.

“Did you like the movie?” he asked.

She shook her head.  “I have no idea.”

A quizzical expression crossed his countenance.  “Why not?”

“I couldn’t concentrate on it.”  She took a deep breath.  “It’s so extraordinary to meet you after all the videos and interviews I’ve watched.  And all your songs, of course.  You have deeply affected my life.  And I’ve often wondered what it would be like to be your friend.  So I’ve been sitting here picturing what it would look like to spend an afternoon in your company.  I don’t think I watched even one scene in that whole movie.  Though, I hope you enjoyed it.”

He just looked at her.  “Would you like to grab a cup of coffee?”

“And a slice of apple pie?” she smiled.

“Oh-okay,” Yoongi grinned.  “Was that part of your daydream?”

She nodded.

“It sounds nice… Is there something in particular you wanted to discuss?”

Wow.  That was a loaded question.  Where would she even begin?

“Let’s find some place to chat.  Did you drive here?” she asked him.

He shook his head.  “I walked.  How about you?”

She nodded.  “I walked to.”

“Actually, there’s a McDonald’s across the street.  Shall we just walk over there and get something to eat?”

“Sounds great.  I can even get a fried apple pie there!  Let me just shoot my friend a text, so she knows I won’t be back for a while.  I’ll just tell her I’m grabbing a bite to eat.  I won’t mention you.”

He smiled gratefully at her.   Then they exited the theater and headed for the restaurant.
