After the movie was over, everyone went their separate ways to get dinner. Moon had somehow convinced Hobi to get dinner with her, which shocked Nia if not anyone else. But Taehyung dragged her away before she could think much of it.
“I want to take you somewhere after dinner. Is that ok?”
Nia nodded. Now she was curious. Where was he taking her?
——————–
After dinner, the two of them went for a long drive in his car. Before she knew it, they’d passed her parents’ house. They were way out of town now. He pulled up into a park that was a few miles from her parents’ house. Part of her was scared that they’d show up for some reason and get mad at her. But the other part of her wanted to know why Taehyung had brought her here.
Taehyung silently climbed out of the car and nodded towards the walking path, urging her to follow. So, she did. And soon enough, she found herself standing in the middle of a field. Taehyung sat down and patted the ground next to him.
“Sit down,” he spoke for the first time since they’d left dinner.
She sat down next to him and followed his gaze to stare up at the stars. She shivered. It was so cold. She felt the gentle weight of a jacket on her shoulders a few moments later.
“Do you remember this place?” Taehyung finally asked.
“It’s…where we promised to meet again, right?”
“Yeah. You know, the day you told me your diagnosis, it ripped my heart in half. A few weeks before that…”
When he didn’t finish his thought, she looked down to see him pulling a small jewelry box out of his pocket. He glanced up at her before popping the box open. She gasped.
“…I bought this.”
“You…you were going to p-propose?” She stuttered, looking up at him in shock.
He nodded. “I knew I couldn’t…after you told me. But I kept the ring. I couldn’t let it go.” He blinked, and tears started to spill down his face.
She set her hand on his arm. “How hard was it? After you were told I was dead?”
He shook his head, more tears falling. “It was horrible. Most nights…I’d cry until I passed out.” He admitted. “On the nights I didn’t cry, I wouldn’t be able to sleep. My mom had been sleeping most of the time then, so I didn’t even have her most of the time.”
Nia leaned forward and hugged him suddenly. He wrapped his arms around her and buried his face in her hair.
“I’m sorry.” She mumbled.
“Why…? You did nothing wrong.”
“But my parents did. They lied to you. They lied to me. They put you through years of grief, and me through years of confusion and depression, so I’m sorry for that. You know, I never knew who I was missing until I realized who you were. I spent eight years missing someone. But I wasn’t sure who it was. I thought I had everyone I ever loved with me. But as it turned out, the one person I loved the most was missing. I’m so glad I found you again, Tae.”
He nodded, and she could tell his tears were spilling into her hair.
“Do you think…we could try again?” He asked hesitantly. “I know it’s only been two months since you and Hobi broke up, but we’ve been separated for so long. I can’t handle it anymore, especially knowing you’re right here.”
She could feel his grip on her tighten, and she nodded into his shoulder. “I’m ready, Tae.”
He let out a soft chuckle.
“Can I see the ring again?”
He pulled back and held it out to her again. She looked up at him after taking a glance at it. She decided to take a leap right then.
“Tae, marry me.”
I’m so happy she was the one that proposed! I actually proposed to my hubby
