Moonflower – Chapter 64: A Taste of Pure Bliss

Jungkook had decided the only way to move forward with Jina was to write a poem.  He had written those flimsy verses a few days ago, but she deserved better.  Jina deserved to be romanced.  He wanted to be the man who introduced her to tenderness.  He knew it was ironic given the beginning of their relationship.  But he was beginning to enjoy tender emotions for her.  And he really wanted to make her happy.  Even if only for a few minutes.

The problem was that he wasn’t sure pretty words on a scroll would move her heart.  She was a woman of action more than sentiment, wasn’t she?  He might have to die for her to move her in the direction he wanted to take her.  And then all of his efforts would be in vain.  For he couldn’t enjoy her if he was no longer with her.

Would she laugh in his face if he read her a poem which he’d composed for her?  It was a risk he would have to be willing to take.  But first, he had to write the poem.  He sighed as he tried to rhyme.

“You have beautiful eyes.

They tell me no lies.

Don’t keep them hidden.

I’ll come unbidden.”

He found the words came more naturally when he sang them.  He rolled over in bed and gazed at her.  She was still sound asleep.  Which was rather ironic given the fact that he was the one working nights.  But he was finding it hard to rest when he lay in a bed with her.

Was it odd that he wanted to woo the woman who was already his wife?  He wanted to enjoy her kisses and her laughter.  And other delights which he felt sure he’d get hit with a broomstick for suggesting at this point.

Was she a sound enough sleeper that he could sing under his breath and not wake her?

He decided to test the waters.  He opened his mouth and began to sing very softly.  His eyes were trained on her lovely face.  The more he gazed at her, the more beautiful he found her.  Her face was captivating in the gentle, early morning sunlight flooding the room from the overhead windows; it was painting her with its glory.

“You have beautiful eyes.

They tell me no lies.

Don’t keep them hidden.

I’ll come unbidden.”

His sweet, clear tones filled the air between them as his hungry eyes devoured her mesmerizing face.  They slid along every contour and delved into every divot and valley.  They traveled across the tiny hills her eyelids created and down the mountain of her nose.  They delighted in the plateaus her plump lips provided.  He longed to kiss them…

“You have ravishing lips.

Finest wine one sips.

May I taste their kiss?

Do they hold some bliss?”

She awoke to the sound of an angel singing.  She didn’t even want to open her eyes.  She was afraid both the enchanting voice and the lovely melody would disappear in the light of day.  So she lay still as his song wrapped around her and his words invaded her heart.  Was Jungkook singing?  To her?

“You have beautiful eyes.

They tell me no lies.

Don’t keep them hidden.

I’ll come unbidden.

“You have ravishing lips.

Finest wine one sips.

May I taste their kiss?

Do they hold some bliss?

“You have glorious hair.

Touch it, do I dare?

Like the finest silk,

Softest of its ilk.

“You have heavenly skin,

Elegant satin.

May I touch it, please?

Release its glories?”

No man had ever before asked permission to touch her.

His lovely words were making her yearn for him.  For his touch.  For his kiss.  For his heart.  To gaze into his gorgeous, obsidian eyes.  Tears began to slide down her cheeks.

He stilled.  He had never before sung for anyone.  He had instinctively known that such behavior would have earned a slap from his appa.   So he had kept his lips sealed and learned the ways of the warrior.  Rather than the lover.

But he found that today he had a greater desire to be a lover than to be a warrior.  There was no delight to be found in subduing a man.  But Jungkook was fairly certain that Jina was hiding a great deal of delight in her heart and soul.  And that he could find some in the sweet curves of her body too.  And along that soft skin.  And in the midst of her honeyed mouth.  Lips he had yet to taste.  But which had been tempting him for quite some time now.

He hadn’t anticipated that his song would make her weep.  Unsure of himself now, he quieted.  His eyes continued to trace the lovely planes of her face.  He couldn’t take her tears.  They were breaking his heart.

“Don’t stop,” she whispered.  “Keep singing.  It’s so beautiful.  Your voice is heavenly.  Where did you learn this song?  I’ve never heard it before.  How blessed was the woman it was written for!”

She sighed.  How she wished Jungkook would pen her words like these!  From his heart.  That he would truly desire her as she had always longed for him.  She recognized it now.  From the very beginning, she had wanted him.  His repulsion of her had broken her heart, and she had lifted her shields against him for a time.  But somehow, he had slid past all her defenses and found his way back into her heart.  And now she yearned for him once more.

“You like it?” he whispered, joy flooding his voice.

She broke the spell and opened her eyes.  But she found, as she gazed into his beautiful, obsidian orbs, that the moment wasn’t lost at all.  It was hidden there in his eyes.  Breathless, she nodded.

“I love it,” she murmured.

A smile of such pure delight curved his lips that she wanted to throw herself at his head and surrender her mouth to his own.  Apparently, he was a masterful warrior.  For he had captured her heart with one flash from his eyes.  She was ready to wave her white flag.

He began to sing again.  He started from the beginning and sang all four stanzas.  His velvet eyes delved deeply into her own as he sang to her.  His melody was surrounding her with such beauty that she began to weep silently once more.  When he finished, he started over again.

“You have beautiful eyes.

They tell me no lies.

Don’t keep them hidden.

I’ll come unbidden.”

As he gazed deeply into her own orbs, he whispered, “You do have beautiful eyes.  I lose myself in them every time you glance my way.  I count the minutes each day, waiting to see them gazing upon me.  I count the seconds each night, longing to return to their beauty.”

She was melting.  From the words pouring from his lips.  From the yearning pouring from his eyes.  Jungkook missed her when he was at work?  And he thought her eyes were captivating?

This time he sang the words out of order.

“You have glorious hair.

Touch it, do I dare?

Like the finest silk,

Softest of its ilk.”

His eyes traced her flowing tresses.  He reached out as his song paused and trailed his finger down a lock that had fallen across her shoulder.  Then he sang the next stanza in that pure, engaging tone.

“You have heavenly skin,

Elegant satin.

May I touch it, please?

Release its glories?”

He’d stolen her breath.  His eyes met hers again, this time begging permission.  That finger was hovering over her skin.  Just above her arm.  He must have seen her answer in her eyes, for the soft pad of that finger instantly dipped and slid delicately along her forearm towards her wrist.  She closed her eyes as she was suddenly swamped by a chorus of sensations.  The tingles he was releasing under her skin were overwhelming her.  She gasped at the delight his simple touch invoked.

Jungkook’s lips curved into a wide smile.  Apparently, she liked his touch.  It was also clear that she was delighting in his song.  For the first time in his life, he felt free.  Someone appreciated the true Jungkook.

The boy he had hidden from everyone his entire life long.  The boy only his eomma had seen.  Only his mother had known the real Jungkook.  The sensitive child moved by the pain of others.  The sweet boy who had received songs from Heaven to unleash God’s glory upon the earth.

Until this moment, Jungkook had forgotten that he used to sing for his eomma when he was tiny.  She would applaud him, her delight in him evident in her countenance.  Then, suddenly, she was gone, and his appa, free from her tender influence, had become a monster.  A brute who had sought to wipe all the sensitivity from Jungkook’s gentle soul.  He had fashioned Jungkook into a warrior.  Making him a man ready to inflict pain upon others.  Rather than to relieve it.  Suddenly, Jungkook hated what he had become.

Tears flooded his eyes, and he rolled away from her.

“Don’t look at me, Jina.  I don’t deserve you.  Brave, sweet, faithful you.  A girl who’s so ready to defend the defenseless.  I don’t deserve you.”

Jungkook was sobbing.  Jina was confused.  She reached out a tentative hand and touched his shoulder.

“I don’t understand.  What are you talking about?”

“I’m too violent.  He wiped the gentleness from my soul.”

“Who?”

“My appa.”

“Jungkook,” her voice was a sympathetic purr.  “That is not true.  He has not wiped the gentleness from your soul.  I see it.  I can feel it.  You are a gentle soul.  You have a very sweet heart.  You take my breath away.”

He rolled towards her.  His eyes collided with hers.  “I do?”

She nodded.  “You always have.  Since the first moment I saw you.  Now I know that I recognized your sweet spirit that very first time.  I thought I’d just been attracted by your handsome face.  But now I know that wasn’t so.  Your beauty goes so much deeper than that.”

Her eyes were caressing him.  He felt longing spiraling up out of his core.  A yearning for her.  For her heart.  For her sweet smile.  For her gorgeous eyes.  For all of her.

“Jungkook, did you write this song?”

He nodded his head.  Then he began to sing again.  The stanza he had skipped before.

“You have ravishing lips.

Finest wine one sips.

May I taste their kiss?

Do they hold some bliss?”

He breathed, “I wrote this song for you.”

Wonder filled her gaze and crashed over her countenance in a ripple of pure delight.

“You wrote this song for me?  These lyrics about me?”

Tears were flooding her cheeks again.

“You wrote these beautiful words about plain me?”

“No,” his eyes sobered, “I wrote these lyrics about my beautiful Jina.  About captivating you.”

Her eyes widened, her face a blanket of shock.  He felt his heart shift so violently in his chest that he gasped.

“I don’t know who told you that you were plain, but it isn’t true.  Jina, you’re so beautiful.  I find you absolutely mesmerizing.”

“You really wrote this song just for me?” she asked in a tiny voice filled with awe.

“Yes.”  His eyes were searching hers.

She scooted towards him.  “Jungkook…” she whispered.

His eyes held hers until her own dropped to his lips.

“You may now taste my kiss.

I hope it holds some bliss.”

She bent her head towards his.  He reciprocated, and their lips met.  In a kiss of such bliss they were both transported to Heaven.
