Sophie peeked around the corner. It was lunch hour. Every day during lunch since December first, she’d sneak into a certain office to leave a gift on the desk. Today was Christmas Eve, and she had the day off tomorrow, so she was leaving two gifts today. She looked both ways in the hall before walking into said office, just to be surprised when it wasn’t empty.
Someone was sitting in a desk chair that was facing away from her. It squeaked ominously as the person in it spun it around, as if he were a character in a drama. As the chair came to a stop, the man sitting in it looked up at her and smiled.
“You’re late today.”
Sophie stared down at him, dumbfounded. She’d thought she was getting in and out secretly enough. And how did he know that she’d been late today? The man nodded his raven head of waves towards the two boxes in her hands.
“What did you bring today?”
Sophie found the courage to speak up then. “H-how did you know I was late today?”
“Simple,” he motioned to the camera in the top corner of his office. “I had that installed the day you first started bringing gifts.
“Why…why are you here now, then?”
“It just so happens that I finish lunch right after you bring your gifts every day.”
Sophie turned beet red. Out of all the men in the office she could’ve chosen to like, she chose this one. Cold, hard, Min Yoongi. Except that she could tell he wasn’t as emotionless as he acted. But even then, he still reacted differently than most people would. She remembered how her friend had been charmed by the cute guy at the front desk. She’d known Yoongi wouldn’t be that easy. Yoongi was different. And besides that, he probably hadn’t even noticed her. She was a personal assistant, and he was one of the executives. Why she’d even allowed herself to fancy him, she didn’t know.
“I’ll-I’ll go-” she stammered out before turning to walk out the door.
But she wasn’t fast enough. Yoongi was hot on her heels, calmly closing the door and standing in front of it, crossing his arms. “I didn’t give you permission to leave.”
Sophie stared up at him with wide eyes.
“I asked you what you brought today, did I not?”
“O-oh…” she held the boxes out to him. “H-here…”
He smiled and took them before walking back to his desk. “Come sit down.”
Sophie walked hesitantly towards his desk and took the chair across from him. She let out a shaky breath as he set the two boxes down on the table. It didn’t appear that he planned on opening them right now. Instead, he leaned back in his chair, looking at her pointedly.
“I have a question for you. Why have you brought these?”
Well, there was no getting out of this now.
“You’ve always seemed a bit…stiff. I thought you could use some Christmas cheer.” She wasn’t meeting his eyes. Instead, she was staring down at her hands.
She was surprised when she heard him chuckle.
“You don’t think I don’t deserve cheer?”
She looked up at him suddenly. “No one deserves cheer. It’s a gift.”
He looked taken aback by her answer. He was clearly at a loss for words.
“Um…if that’s all…I haven’t eaten my lunch yet, so I’ll go.”
But once again, he moved too fast for her.
“How would you like to join me at the company’s annual Christmas party tonight?”
Was Yoongi…inviting her to be his date…at a company party…?
