It was a cool summer day. The wind was blowing just enough to tousle one’s hair, but not enough to be a nuisance. The ocean waves were crashing against the shore, and the smell of salt was strong in the air. Jiae was laying in a hammock while reading a book. Occasionally, the wind would ruffle the pages and cause her to have to flip back to her spot, but she didn’t mind.
This was her idea of a vacation. A calm day by the ocean reading a book while the waves crashed against the shore. The only thing missing was Tae. He’d wanted to go biking. She didn’t mind. The only difference it made to her at the moment was that he wasn’t cuddling with her in this hammock.
She shut her book and looked around, simply enjoying the scenery. There were two large palm trees directly above her, and the sky was cloudless for as far as she could see. It was a beautiful, bright blue. She smiled and shut her eyes, letting herself soak in the peace.
She loved living in the big city. Having cars drive by outside and being able to see the whole city from her bedroom window. The constant bustle of people when she went out and the congested subways. But it was nice to have some quiet for once. The only noises were that of the waves and the wind, and it just felt so perfect.
The two trees above her were providing her enough shade to keep the sun from being too bright, but she could still feel its warmth. It was better than being buried under piles of blankets. It was just there, and she didn’t have to be suffocated by blankets to feel it.
It wasn’t long before she heard the quiet click of a bike lock and gentle footsteps down the path. She opened her eyes just in time to see Tae lean over her. He smiled.
“Are you enjoying yourself?”
Jiae nodded. “Did you enjoy your bike ride?”
“Yep. I missed you, though.”
She patted the hammock. “Want to lay with me?”
He bent down and scooped her up before laying down in the hammock himself. She laughed softly and cuddled up against his chest.
“It’s so nice out here,” he mumbled.
Jiae hummed in response, letting her eyes flutter shut. They both went silent, simply enjoying laying there together. Tae kept his foot on the ground, rocking the hammock ever so slightly. He ran his fingers across her cheek before combing them through her hair.
“Is it nap time?” he asked in a gentle whisper.
“Yes, definitely.
“Ok.” He kissed her temple. “Sweet dreams.”
Sounds like a dreamy vacation !
