I looked at myself in the mirror as I put the finishing touches on my makeup. I didn’t usually wear makeup, but my boyfriend had insisted I be his date to the party he had been invited to. Now, if it had been a normal and low-class party, I wouldn’t have had a problem, but my boyfriend, Kim Taehyung, came from an upper-class family, and he was invited to some of the fanciest parties in town. I thought I would probably stand out against all of the fancy and nicely dressed people there, but Tae assured me I’d fit in well. I still didn’t quite believe him, though.
“Misun! Are you ready to go?”
“Almost!” I finished putting in my second pair of earrings before grabbing my handbag and heels and running downstairs. I sat down on the couch and pulled on my heels quickly.
“Wow, my princess knows how to dress up.”
I looked up to see Tae, buttoning up the last button on his blazer.
“I’ve never seen my handsome prince in a suit before.” I smiled.
He blushed. “Aigoo, don’t tease me.” He smiled shyly before deciding to change the subject. “We need to go now.”
I nodded and stood up, my legs shaking slightly in my 4-inch heels.
“I better not have to carry you out tonight because your feet hurt.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll be ok.” I walked over to him. “Besides, I’m easier to kiss now, aren’t I?”
He smiled. “That’s true,” he leaned down and kissed me. But then he pulled away slightly and called me by my least favorite nickname of the ones he had given me. “Shorty.”
I smacked his chest. “You goof. C’mon, let’s go.”
He grabbed my hand and intertwined his fingers with mine. “All right, my driver’s waiting for us anyways.” He paused. “But…one last kiss.” He bent down and kissed me once more. I grinned against his lips and fell into the kiss.
We walked out to the front, where his driver was waiting in the car for us. Tae opened the back door for me and I climbed in. He climbed after me. I glanced over at him, seeing him mess with one of the inside pockets of his suit jacket. He stopped when he noticed me looking at him.
“Is there something wrong with your pocket?”
“No, it’s fine.” He smiled at me.
I smiled back at him. “All right,” I turned to look out the window, admiring the scenery. I could feel Tae’s eyes on me, just like they almost always were. I grinned. He was my sweet, perfect prince.
——————–
I held on tightly to Tae’s arm as we walked in, I didn’t want to lose him in this big crowd.
Tae, feeling my tight grip on his arm, glanced at me. “Are you nervous?”
I nodded slowly. “A little…”
“Don’t be, you’re the most beautiful girl here.”
I blushed and smiled softly. “I love you so much, Tae.”
“I love you too.” He leaned his forehead on mine, a grin glowing on his face.
“Hyung, you came!”
Tae looked over to the dark-haired boy who greeted him. “Of course I came, Jungkook. I wouldn’t miss your birthday party, even if your mom did plan it.” He paused. “And it’s too over-the-top.
Jungkook looked around. “Yeah, my mom insisted on inviting basically every millionaire all of Korea. Honestly, I don’t know more than a quarter of the people here.”
Tae laughed. “Remind me not to let your mom plan my parties.”
Jungkook nodded. “Dually noted.”
“Jungkook!” A voice called.
Jungkook’s eyes went wide as he looked in the direction of the voice. “Oh no, my mom’s trying to find me. She’s probably gonna try to introduce me to some rich dude’s daughter or something. All right, I gotta go find someone to talk business with. Talk to you later.” He ran off.
Tae shook his head. “That boy has been on so many blind dates. He needs to find some girl that he actually gets along with.”
“Does he not get along with any of the girls he’s met?” I asked, quite surprised.
Tae shook his head again. “Nope, he says they’re all rich snobs.” He sighed. “Let’s go find our table.”
We found our table in about a minute, and it was a good thing we found it so quickly, as Jungkook’s mother got up and started a long speech right after we sat down. She went on for about 15 minutes, talking about how much she loved Jungkook and how sweet he is. That is, until her husband cut her off. He took the mic from her and told everyone to help themselves to food and refreshments, before dragging his wife off the stage.
Tae shook his head. “I don’t know how Jungkook survived with them as his parents.”
I giggled.
“Hey Kim, who’s the cute girl you brought?”
Tae and I looked across the table. The young man who spoke was wide-shouldered and had lilac hair.
“She’s my girlfriend,” Tae replied. “A better question, though, is when did you get your hair dyed?”
“Last week,” the man took a sip of his wine.
I looked at Tae. “Who’s he?”
“Kim Seok-Jin, World Wide Handsome,” the man replied before Tae could. He pushed his lilac bangs out of his face and smiled. I tried not to cringe. This guy was weird.
“Jin, quit trying to flirt with her” Tae said, slightly annoyed.
Before Jin could reply, a voice came from the speaker system again.
“So, I’ve been told to get you all out on the dance floor, and there’s also open bar if you people want to get drunk. Or, I mean, if you just like alcohol that’s also an excuse. But make sure you get down on the dance floor before you leave!” He smiled and jumped off the front of the stage.
“Jimin I told you not to do that!” A voice screamed from the front, making everyone burst out laughing.
“You guys want to go get a drink at the bar?” Jin asked.
I shook my head. “I don’t drink.”
Jin looked at Tae, who shook his head. “Sorry, I can’t get drunk tonight. And you know I don’t like alcohol anyway.”
“Why can’t you get drunk, though? Or is that just an excuse because you don’t think hating alcohol is enough of an excuse?” Jin gave him a sassy look.
Tae leaned across the table towards Jin. “It’s a secret,” he intoned, raising his eyebrow mysteriously.
Jin rolled his eyes. “Fine.” He got up and headed for the bar, shooting Tae an angry look as he left.
I leaned back in my chair and sighed. “So is there much else to do here besides dance and drink?”
“No, I don’t think so.” Tae smiled. “But don’t worry, I have a surprise for you later. I think you’ll like it.”
I sat up. “What is it?”
He smirked. “Well if I tell you it wouldn’t be much of a surprise.”
I pouted. “But I want to know, jagiya.”
“You’ll find out soon, don’t worry.”
Just then, someone tapped on the mic. We looked over to the stage. It was Jin.
“All right listen, I have to make a toast to Jungkook. How old is this child now? 25? Man I remember when he was 3… Anyways, Jungkook is one of the nicest people I have ever met, he cares way too much about other people, and I have also discovered that he is a VERY GOOD at match making, so if you want a date just go find him. Uhm…what was I saying? Oh yeah!” He raised the glass he had in his hand. “To Jungkook!”
As people raised their glasses and cheered, I looked around for Jungkook, who I found sitting close to the front with his face buried in his hands. Tae leaned close to me.
“Remind me not to invite Jin to any parties, and if I do, we’re putting him far from the mic.”
I stifled a laugh. “Ok.”
Tae looked around cautiously before looking back at me. “Should we go soon?”
I looked at him excitedly “Can we? I’m really bored…”
Tae smiled and nodded. “Let’s go say goodbye to Jungkook and then we can leave.”
He stood up, extending his arm out to me. “May I escort my princess?”
I grinned and took his hand, using it to pull myself up. Once I was on my feet, Tae linked his arm with mine. He grinned cheekily.
“What?” I asked.
“My short little princess is still tiny even in 4-inch heels,” he teased.
I smacked his arm, “You’re so mean to me,” I pouted playfully.
He chuckled. “All right, let’s go say goodbye to Jungkook and get out of here.”
