Quarter of a Century – Chapter 36: Twin Kisses

Breeze sighed.  It was Wednesday morning.  Her last class finished in an hour, then she could take a train to see Joonie.  It was still unbelievable.  Yet she continued to feel unworthy of this opportunity.  Even though it was every ARMY’s dream!

But he had texted her this morning and said he’d be waiting for her at the train station two hours from now.  How could she disappoint him?  That was the one thought that kept her going. She had to board that train.  She couldn’t let him down on his birthday.

Namjoon was waiting nervously at the train depot.  His palms were sweating.  He kept wiping them on his pants.  What if she didn’t show?  He considered it.  He’d just hop on that train and go find her, that’s what he’d do.  She was precious to him.  He would fight for her if he had to.  He would, in fact, relish doing so.

Fancifully, he pictured himself clothed in the garb of a knight, his helmet covering his dimples, a flashing sword hanging from his belt.  And he was, of course, riding a white charger.  Through a forest.  There was always a forest in such fantasies, right?  Anyway…he was charging through that sunlit forest when he came upon her.  A ravishing beauty caught in the clutches of an evil belief – who, of course, was personified as an ogre in the vision.  Namjoon stilled his horse suddenly as he stared in awe at beautiful Breeze.  He called out the evil belief ogre and brandished his blade as he rode full tilt into the dreadful demon and ran him through with his sword.  That hideous hopelessness lay on the ground, skewered to it by the burning blade of Namjoon’s love for captivating Breeze.

The train stopped.  Breeze was the first one to descend onto the platform.  Her actual presence shook Namjoon from his reverie as those stunning eyes found his own.  He ran to her.  He was so happy to see her!

Breeze stopped short as soon as her eyes found Namjoon’s.  His mouth instantly parted in a heart-stopping grin that sent his dimples dancing and his teeth flashing, and he took off running towards her.

What is this?  That was all she had time to think before she was lovingly embraced, crushed against his well-muscled chest, and spun around.  He’d actually picked her up off the platform and twirled her around before setting her back onto solid ground.  For a moment she was embarrassed, but then his joy overwhelmed her as he bent to touch his lips to her cheek in the sweetest of kisses.

His face still pressed against her own, his mouth brushed her skin as he spoke, “Breeze, I’ve missed you so much!  Three days is too long to go without seeing you!”

He’d tried to call her several times, but each time she’d texted that she was in the middle of class or studying.  She kept telling him that she had to get her work done if she was going to spend four whole days with him.  FOUR WHOLE DAYS!  He was so excited!

Was she?  He glanced down at her after he raised his lips from her cheek.  She didn’t look thrilled.  His heart fell.  Operation Love Yourself Breeze was now under way.

Her heart warmed every time she glanced at Joonie.  He kept his eyes on her the whole way home.  Each time they met hers, he’d give her that ear-splitting grin again, and she’d fall headlong into those deep wells God had kissed into his cheeks.  The kiss of God.  Namjoon had received two.  And they were so beautiful.  She suddenly couldn’t resist them herself.  She stopped walking and turned to face him as he also came to a halt. She reached up and stuck the tip of her forefinger into one of the dimples as he smiled at her.  He began to laugh.

“Breeze, what are you doing?”

She was undeterred.  She pressed her finger into his other dimple and grinned.  “Fair’s fair.  You touched my cheek without permission!”

“Ah!  ‘Cheek’ being the operative word!  You owe me one!”

Before Breeze had a chance to ponder that cryptic statement, his head bent towards her, and his lips brushed her other cheek in a flash of lightning that struck all the way to her toes.
