Rather Dead Than Without You – Chapter 11: What Are You Hiding?

Jungkook had gone for a walk this morning.  He has started by going to find his car.  He climbed in and started it, sighing a sigh of relief when the engine came to life.  He has to figure out what to do about Yunseo.  He didn’t have the time to go get his car fixed.

He decided to drive around for a while, finally settling on getting coffee.  As he sat in the café, his emotional waters were stirred again.

“Hey, you.”

Jungkook looked up to see an intimidatingly tall and buff guy standing in front of him.  Yunseo.

“What do you want?” Jungkook sighed.

“I want my girlfriend back.  Give her to me.”

Jungkook snorted. “She’s taken, don’t you know?”

“No, she’s not.  I know your marriage is fake.”

“Fake?  We have a marriage certificate.  And rings.” He gestured to the gold band on his left hand.

“Yunseo slammed his hands down on the table, disrupting Jungkook’s cup of coffee.

“Take that back!  She’s mine!”

Jungkook calmly righted his cup and began to mop up the coffee with some napkins.

“She’s not.  She doesn’t belong to you.  And you can kindly stop texting her threatening messages.  It’s no use, and in all honestly they sound petty.”

“Excuse me?!”

Jungkook cleared his throat. “Please leave.”

Yunseo lost it, squaring Jungkook in the face with his fist.  Jungkook reached up and gingerly touched his now busted lip before standing up and marching out of the café, forgetting his coffee.  He didn’t forget to double check that he had his wallet, his phone, and Taeyeon’s phone, however.

——————–

Taeyeon lay on the couch.  She had searched the whole house now, she was sure.  Still no phone.  She hugged her arm against her chest.  Just then, she heard the door open.  She pushed herself up, looking over at the door.

“Jungkook!”

Jungkook looked up.  Taeyeon instantly shot up off the couch and ran over to him.

“What happened to your lip?”

“Ah…um…someone punched me.”

“Did you get into a fight?”

“Uh…no.”

Taeyeon furrowed her brow. “You’re lying.  Why are you lying?” she paused. “Wait.  Do you have my phone?”

“Uh…” Jungkook pulled her phone out of his pocket hesitantly. “Yes.  Here.” He handed it to her.

She grasped it lightly, pulling it from his hand.  Her eyes were pooling with tears. “What are you hiding from me?  I thought…I thought you really cared about me…you lied, didn’t you?  You’re just using me!”

Taeyeon shoved Jungkook to the side, rushing out the door with tears streaming down her face.

——————–

Taeyeon ran down the sidewalk.  Her arm hurt, and she honestly had no idea where she was headed, but she kept running.

“Taeyeon!”

No!  It was Yunseo!  Taeyeon kept running, despite knowing Yunseo would probably catch up to her fairly quickly.  Tears kept streaming down her face.  Why had she left Jungkook’s house.  At least, if nothing else, it had the feel of being welcome.

“Im Taeyeon!  I told you you’ll pay!”

What?  Before Taeyeon could even think anymore, the whole world went black.

——————–

Jungkook had run after Taeyeon almost immediately.  But it had been too late.  She was somehow already long gone.  Jungkook decided to go in search of her, repeatedly calling her phone.  But he got no response.  It had been about an hour later when he finally gave up, slumping down onto a park bench along the path.  A tear slipped down his cheek.  He hoped Taeyeon would come back…and give him a chance to explain.  Jungkook looked down at the band on his finger.  It shone in the sunlight.  Where had she gone…?

——————–

Taeyeon blinked her eyes open.  She recognized this room.  She had been here countless times.  She cringed as pain shot through her head.  She reached up to rub her forehead, but she couldn’t move her arm.

“Oh, look who’s finally awake.”

Taeyeon cringed at that voice.  She hated that voice.

“Baby, answer me.”

“Please let me go.”

“You’re so pathetic.  I’m not just going to let you go.  Are you insane?”

Taeyeon sighed.  She knew begging would get her nowhere.  She had learned that the hard way.

“Don’t worry.  I’ll tell your ‘husband’ what’s coming.  I’ll take care of you.”

Tears spilled down Taeyeon’s cheeks.  She thought she had escaped this.  She should’ve stayed with Jungkook.  She would’ve preferred being there.  Anywhere but here…
