An hour after Namjoon escaped to his room to listen to Jungkook’s song, Jin slipped down the hall to knock on his door.
“Come in,” Namjoon called over the music playing next to his bed.
Jin opened the door and stopped short. His eyes grew wide. “Oh! Is this Jungkook’s song? He wouldn’t let any of us hear it before you. Except for Yoongi who helped him record it.”
Namjoon nodded.
“Turn it up.”
Jin listened to the end of the song. When it ceased, he requested, “Will you play the whole thing again?”
By this time three more curious men had wandered down the hallway, drawn by the strains of a beautiful song. Hobi crashed into Jin, shoving him further into Namjoon’s bedroom. Tae and Jimin followed him. Their leader played the song from the beginning again.
They all stood listening raptly to it. Various expressions lighting up their faces. A couple were bittersweet, others almost jubilant. But they all loved Jungkook’s sentiments and his melody.
When it finished, Tae let out a low whistle. “ARMY would love this.”
“They’d love your rap too, Namjoons,” Jimin added.
“At the rate we’re going, we could release a new album of us all just loving on each other and expressing the inner journey we’ve taken in respect to our feelings for each other and how they’ve developed over the last seven years,” Jin murmured.
Hobi’s eyes lit up. “What a great idea!”
“I still think perhaps Jungkook wouldn’t want quite that much of his heart exposed,” Namjoon opined softly.
All the men glanced at each other and nodded.
“Hey, is it time for cake? Or what?” asked a deep rumble from the doorway.
Everyone looked at Yoongi, and Jin jumped.
“Yes! That’s why I came in here.” He peered down at Namjoon. “Come on, Joonie! Come see the happy happenings that happened today.”
Namjoon chuckled, shook his head, and followed Jin to the kitchen. Everyone assembled around his happy creation. A tall white cake loaded down with fresh fruit awaited their fearless leader.
“For you, Joonie. The best leader a band could have,” Jin declared.
But Jungkook added to it, “The best friend too.”
As his eyes met Namjoon’s, he knew that his hyung returned the tender sentiment. After all, in response to his song, Namjoon had written Jungkook his very own rap. A rap that would always be dear to his heart. Nearly as precious as was the man he had followed into the unknown. Simply because he believed in him. Namjoon had repaid that favor thousands of times over.
Jungkook had gambled on a stranger and found a friend for life. A leader, a mentor, a big brother. And a true friend. They would always be special to each other. The light in their eyes as they met promised that much.
