After a while, Yoongi whispered in her ear, “I don’t want to leave you alone tonight.  Can I sleep on your couch?”

She nodded, relaxing against him.  Why did that make her feel better?  She must trust Yoongi to allow him to stay with her while she slept.  But did she have a basis for that trust?  She felt like she did.  He had, after all, set a trap for her rapist and supplied her with his personal bodyguard. Clearly, he cared about her.  If his actions were anything to judge by.

“I just need to call one of my friends and have him bring me a change of clothes and my toothbrush.  Okay?”

Again, she nodded.

A while later, there was a knock on the door.  Yoongi answered if.  He had a brief conversation in the hallway.  Then he entered her apartment and closed the door.  He set the bolt.  Then he turned towards her.

“Are you tired?”

She was clearly exhausted.  She nodded as she yawned.

“Go sleep.  I’ll take the couch.”  He headed that way.

“Yoongi?”

He glanced up at her.  “Hmm?”

“Thank you.”  She paused.  “For everything.”  Then she turned and walked back to her bedroom.  She fell down in bed fully dressed and fell into an uneasy sleep.  An hour passed.  She glanced at the clock as she roused momentarily.  Then she slept again.  Ninety minutes later, she wandered out into her living room.  Yoongi was sound asleep on her couch.  She smiled.  Sweet guy.  She headed back to her bedroom.

Yoongi opened his eyes.  He hadn’t wanted her to know that he was still awake.  He figured she’d feel more secure if she believed he was sleeping.  But Yoongi had no intention of sleeping tonight.  He was keeping vigil.  No one was going to harm that girl on his watch.

Yoongi was true to his word.  He had her call in sick to the school.  Then he took her to the doctor.  Then he brought her back to apartment and headed out to pick up some lunch for her a little later too.  It was an odd feeling having someone so protective hovering over her.  She kept reminding herself that it wouldn’t be long-lived.  That Yoongi would return to his own life soon enough.  Especially once his concert season began.

None of her fears had been put to rest.  The earliest test results wouldn’t be in until next week.  She couldn’t find out if she was pregnant for a few more days either.  So now she was playing a waiting game.  She would be visiting the police department in a couple hours to give her full statement.  She had already decided she wasn’t going to mention the rape unless she sat down with a female officer.  But Yoongi had talked her into having the doctor perform a rape kit today.  She was glad that was behind her.  It had been a horrible experience in and of itself.  She didn’t want to think about any of it now.

She smiled tremulously at Yoongi as he handed her a bowl of ramen.  The man was adorable.  Her stomach was doing somersaults.  It had been all day.  But for his sake, she would attempt to take a few bites.

Yoongi was watching her closely.  He could tell that she was holding on to her composure by a very loose thread.  He was thankful that she’d called in sick.  The last thing she needed to be handling today was a bunch of teenagers.   She still had to endure being interrogated by the police.  Yoongi was going to insist on staying with her.  And today he had hired her the best attorney his money could buy.

He wasn’t going to allow anyone to make a victim of her twice.  He was also prepared for her ex-boyfriend to come after him once he knew who Yoongi was.  It was part of the reason that he wanted the whole truth to come out today.  They needed to be consistent from the very beginning.
