Treasured Memories

Footprints were carved into the sand along the shoreline, trailing behind two pairs of feet.  The couple walked hand-in-hand as they swung their arms under the full moon.  The walk was silent but for the waves crashing gently against the shore.  Tonight, was a beautiful night.  Much unlike the night they had met.

It had been at a crazy award show one night many years ago.  Namjoon had been rushing out, collecting his fellow band members as he went.  It was an insane cram to try and get through all the people in the building and find the exit.  And as the leader, it was Namjoon’s responsibility to make sure everyone was with them and intact.  Thankfully, the six other men had all been composed enough to keep together.  Namjoon settled down as they made their way towards the exit.

But then he heard something.  A cry of pain.  He looked over towards the direction that he’d heard it in.  A tiny girl in a fancy dress was trying to put one of her heels back on as people shoved around her.  Even from far away, Namjoon could see that her foot was blistering badly.  He quickly made sure all the boys were together before informing them that he’d be right back.

He rushed through the crowd until he reached her.  Then he quickly offered her his hand. “May I, miss?”

She looked up at him then, resigning to the fact that she’d never get her shoe back on.  She nodded and took his hand cautiously, her bright sienna eyes still staring up into his chocolate ones.  He quickly scooped her up and carried her back to where the rest of his troop had been packing up.

Usually, he avoided contact with any girls that we’re working with or for BigHit.  But tonight, he had felt oddly drawn to this girl.  He’d seen many damsels in destress, but there was something about this one that had just begged him to notice her.  To help her.

As quickly as he could, he explained the situation to his manager.  And his manager let him bring the girl with them.  For just one night.

The tiny girl had been silent the entire car ride to the hotel.  She’d removed her other shoe as well and had sat silently between Namjoon and Yoongi.  Namjoon couldn’t tell if she was just shy or if she knew who they were.  He sincerely hoped they weren’t intimidating her.

That night at the hotel, Namjoon had their medic look at her feet.  It turned out that she had also twisted her ankle at some point, so it had been a good thing that he had insisted.

The next morning, they parted ways.  With only the exchange of one of Namjoon’s sweatshirt and their numbers to remember each other by.  But it kept their bond alive.

Months later, they had their first date.  Namjoon had found one free night while he was in LA and had asked her to join him at the hotel.  They’d been sneaky enough that they hadn’t been caught by any cameras.

And that had been the start of their relationship.  For years to come, they would send texts at the odd moment or receive a sudden facetime call.  Occasionally they had a chance to meet up in some hidden spot in LA.  But they never really had a chance to become deeply bonded.

Until one day, she decided to pop up at his studio in Korea.

Namjoon had been working on writing lyrics for their next album when there was a sudden knock on his studio door.  He knew none of the boys would be bothering him right now.  They would’ve texted him.  He made a quick glance at his phone to make sure he hadn’t missed a text before getting up to go answer the door.

What he hadn’t expected was to be met with his girlfriend’s smiling face.

“Hi Joonie!” she catapulted herself into his arms. “I’ve missed you!”

——————–

Their relationship carried on well enough for them to decide to get married.  It had taken them four long years to get there.  But they did it.  And they managed to make it through all the insanities of a wedding in one piece.

And that led them to today.  Walking hand-in-hand on the beach.  On their honeymoon.

“Joonie, look at the moon.  It’s so bright tonight.”

Namjoon looked down at his wife.  She was staring up at the sky, her big sienna eyes reflecting the moon.  He smiled.

“Isn’t it so pretty, Joonie?” her voice trailed off as she looked up at him, the intensity in his gaze surprising her.

As he stared down at her, he couldn’t help but wonder if it was a dream.  She was really his now.  She’d taken his family name.  She was Lily Kim now.  He grinned.

“You wanna go back to the hotel?”
