An hour later, after he had rolled to the side, yawned, stretched, and opened his eyes, Jin had ascertained that Julieta needed something to eat. So did he. He wandered out to her kitchen. He was a man on a mission. But not just any mission. He was here to make Julieta some toast. Her stomach was still griping, but she had an added layer of discomfort now. She was also hungry. So…toast it was. But not just any toast. No, he had something special in mind…
A few minutes later, Jin entered her bedroom with a tray of tea and toast in his hands. But when he placed the tray on her nightstand and her eyes took in the toast, she met his gaze in a smile, and she grinned as she exclaimed, “Jin! Did you make that for me?”
He nodded and picked up the plate to set it down in her lap a moment later. She stared down at twin hearts. She glanced up at him. “You cut my toast in the shape of a heart?”
He nodded.
She beamed as she looked at the two red hearts. He had even covered the toast in strawberry jam.
“Jin, you’re adorable,” she whispered. “They’re so cute I don’t want to eat them!”
He laughed. “Eat them. There’s more where those came from!”
“I’m truly blessed. This is the second food item in the shape of a heart that I’ve received from you today.”
His eyes slid along the curve of her smile. “Anything to make you feel better, Julieta.”
Ohh. What had she done to deserve this paragon of kindness?
“I love you, Jin,” she murmured as she lifted a piece of toast to her mouth.
“I love you too, Julieta.”
His eyes graced her face with an intensely shining light. The light of love.
