Lily stared at her best friend. Marilyn was a beautiful Latina with large, light brown eyes and the most gorgeous, dark hair that fell in waves down her back. Lily had always thought Marilyn’s olive skin was much more beautiful than her own milky complexion. Though Marilyn would have argued that her pale skin complemented her rich, red hair.
Lily sighed. Marilyn was most likely right. She would probably look strange with tan skin and flaming red hair. A certain friend of theirs would have insisted that they were both stunningly beautiful just the way that God had made them. One, a dark beauty, the other, a paler vision. One, a resplendent rose, the other, a lovely lily.
“You know, when you do meet Tae, he’s going to tower over you,” Lily pointed out. “He’s three-quarters of a foot taller than you are!”
Privately, Lily reflected that it would be a little easier for her to kiss Jungkook. She had two inches on Marilyn. And Jungkook was a smidge shorter than Tae. She laughed to herself.
“Lily, what are you laughing at? Me being so much shorter than Tae?”
“No, I was thinking it would be easier for me to kiss Jungkook than it would be for you to reach Tae!”
Marilyn felt herself turning red. “You’re absurd!” she laughed. Though, if she were honest, she had thought about it!
They were riding in a taxi to the stadium. Both of them were bouncing with excitement. The concert was in two hours! Marilyn couldn’t wait! They were going to have the time of their lives.
An hour later, they found their seats in the nosebleed section of the Rose Bowl stadium. They settled in to watch the pre-performance videos. Tae grabbed Jungkook’s hat and took off running. Jungkook was quick to race after him, pouncing on him a minute later, rescuing his hat from Tae’s crushing embrace. Marilyn and Lily laughed. This video reminded them of the time Tae had launched a ball at Jungkook and hit him as he slept. Jungkook had broken his phone in his ire at Tae as he’d sprung up from the mat and flung his phone onto the ground in his haste to catch Tae. The girls loved laughing over the antics of those two cute boys.
A few minutes later, streams of fire began to ascend from the stage as dramatic music was pumped through the speakers. Girls began screaming as army bombs lit up the air. Marilyn could hardly catch her breath; she was so excited. Lily turned wide eyes towards her as they both waved their army bombs around and began to join in the fanchant, “Kim Namjoon, Kim Seokjin, Min Yoongi, Jung Hoseok, Park Jimin, Kim Taehyung, Jeon Jungkook, BTS!”
And then suddenly, the boys rose out of the stage floor, and the crowd went really wild. Marilyn and Lily screamed right along with them. Song after song, dance after dance, their army bombs colorfully lighting the way, the girls thoroughly enjoyed every single moment of the concert. Truthfully, it came to a close all too soon.
Towards the end, as Tae began to speak, he did get choked up, and twin tears slid down his cheeks. “I love you all so much, ARMY! I purple you!” he proclaimed.
And Marilyn felt answering tears in her own eyes. She loved Tae so much! If only she had found the courage to speak to him this morning!
