The Boy Behind the Mask – Chapter 3: Pool Diving

Eunji quickly knitted her hair into a braid, admiring her new swimsuit in the mirror.  She was excited to see Taehyung again, as she hadn’t seen him for a few weeks.  She knew Namjoon would probably want to hang out with her, however.  How would she get to spend time with just Taehyung?  Her thoughts were interrupted by her phone chiming.  Taehyung had just texted her.

“You better be at least headed our way.  I can’t wait forever to throw you into this pool, you know.  >_>”

She laughed.  He used the strangest emoticons sometimes.  She quickly replied to him.

“I’ll push you in before you can throw me in!”

“I’d like to see you try to win against these abs.”

She snorted. “Those abs are newly formed, they’re not very strong yet”

“What did you say about my very manly abs?  How dare you!  They will help me throw you into the pool later!”

She laughed.  This was exactly why she liked this boy; he was very comedic. “Hmm, we’ll see about that”

She put her phone away and quickly headed downstairs.  She knew Taehyung would be awaiting her arrival so he could push her into the pool.  She was determined to beat him to it, but how?  He was so much stronger than her!  She considered her options on the ride over to his house but was once again reminded of Namjoon.  She wondered what he would think of her and Taehyung’s playful banter.  She supposed it might reveal that she wasn’t all poised and perfect, but at this moment in time, it didn’t matter.

She soon arrived and thought it best that she sneak in through the gate.  She knew all the guards knew her well enough to let her do that.  She soon snuck in through there and found the party smaller than she had expected.  She looked around for Taehyung, and he was quite easy to find, considering he was standing close to the pool, probably pondering the best way to go about tossing her into the pool.  From where she was, she had a great view of his quite muscular back.  She spent a few seconds taking in this great view, but then threw her belongings onto a beach chair and snuck towards Taehyung.  When she reached him, she took no time waiting to shove him into the pool.

“Ah!” He squeaked, letting out the highest pitched sound she had ever heard him make.  A second later when he resurfaced, he shot her an angry look.

“I’m going to get you for this, you goof!” He swam over to the edge and hauled himself out of the pool.

Eunji was momentarily distracted by his muscles, which rippled as he pushed himself out of the pool.  It was almost like time had slowed down as she watched him climb out of the pool.  But then she realized the danger she was in and ran off.

“Get back here, Eunji!” Taehyung chased her around the yard, gaining on her a bit every second.  It wasn’t long before he caught up with her and scooped her up, carrying her back to the pool.  He tossed her in.

“I told you I’d toss you in!  My abs have not failed me today!” He laughed as she resurfaced.

“You’re lucky I can swim, unlike most girls similar to me.”

“I suppose I would’ve had to save you if you couldn’t swim?”

“If I couldn’t swim and you hadn’t saved me, I would’ve persisted in trying to swim just so I could live to beat you!”

A smirk appeared on his face, and he tried to hold in his laughter, but to no avail as he burst out laughing a second later. “Man, if you weren’t engaged to my brother, I would take you as mine just for how humorous you are!” That wasn’t entirely true.  He would’ve claimed her as his any day.  If only Namjoon hadn’t liked her as well…

This made Eunji blush a bit, but she hid it and laughed with him. “Ah, Taehyung, you’re so funny.” She swam over to the ladder and climbed out of the pool. “You owe me your towel for throwing me in.”

“That means you owe me your towel as well.”

Eunji gave him a pout. “I’m cold.  Please?  I’ll go get you mine if you give me yours.”

“Aish, fine.” He ran over to his beach chair and quickly returned with his towel, wrapping it around her when he reached her. “Go get yours for me now.”

She nodded and ran over to her beach chair, returning a moment later and handing him the towel.  He smiled and hugged it against his chest.

“I’m not giving this back.”

“Fine, I’m not giving yours back either.” Eunji hugged his towel protectively around herself.

Taehyung giggled. “How many times have we traded random items now?”

She shrugged. “Too many to keep count.”

——————–

“Tae!”

Taehyung jumped at the sound of his name being called.  Why was Jungkook here at this time?  He jumped again as Jungkook burst through his door.

“Why are you here?” Taehyung asked.

“I want to play games, DUH!”

“Oh.”

Jungkook plopped himself onto Taehyung’s bed, shooting Taehyung into the air.  Taehyung had forgotten that his friend weighed entirely of muscle!  He landed on the ground with a thud.

“Jungkook!”

“Whoops.” Jungkook burst out laughing.

Taehyung groaned and crawled back up onto the bed. “You owe me ice cream now.”

Jungkook frowned.  That was his usual punishment for shooting Taehyung off the bed. “Fine, but I have a question to ask.”

“What is it?”

“Well, Jimin said something about you liking Eunji.  Is it true?”

Taehyung gave Jungkook a strange look. “What do you mean?  I don’t like her…”

Jungkook snorted. “You do, don’t you?”

Taehyung looked away. “Ok, maybe I like her, but…”

“But what?”

“Namjoon’s better for her…  I-” Taehyung paused. “I don’t know how to explain it…”

“Don’t tell me this is to pay Namjoon back for all the sacrifices he’s made for you.  You don’t need to do that, you know.  Namjoon would tell you that if you asked him.”

“But I need to.  I owe my whole life to him…”

Jungkook sighed. “Let’s just go get ice cream.  This entire thing is just too depressing.”
