Namjoon looked across the table at his baby brother, the one he had always adored, and watched as two plump tears streaked down his cheeks.  That was all it took.

“Tae.  Go tell her how you feel.  I can’t stand to watch you get your heart broken any more.”

“No, Namjoon-”

“She’s in love with you, Tae.  Not me.  I know you think you don’t deserve her, but she chose you, Tae.”

Taehyung sighed heavily. “Namjoon, I can’t do that…”

“Yes, you can.  I’m breaking off the engagement.”

Taehyung looked up at Namjoon, his eyes wide. “No, no…” He shook his head. “Namjoon, don’t do that…”

“I’m going to do it, Tae.  You can’t stop me.  I’m meeting with Appa after this.”

The tears in Taehyung’s eyes started spilling again.  But he didn’t argue.  He knew no matter what he said, Namjoon would persist.  There was no stopping him.

——————–

Taehyung looked down at his phone.  He had a text from Namjoon.

“The engagement is off.  You have no excuse not to tell her now.  Go tell her, Tae.”

Taehyung knew he was right.  He needed to tell her.  So, he did the only logical thing.

——————–

Namjoon stared up at the cherry blossom trees as he walked down the sidewalk.  He inhaled the scent as he walked.  It was so beautiful outside.  Though he had just broken off the engagement with his 8-year love, he was happy.  His younger brother could finally have his hidden wish.  It made him happy that his brother could finally be happy.  This thought was broken as he heard a scream.  His vision was directed in the direction of the nearby park.  Another scream then echoed through the air.

“Hajun!  Ok, ok!  Don’t freak out!  Don’t freak out!  It’ll be ok!”

Namjoon rushed in the direction of the voice.  He found a young lady kneeling down in front of a child.  The child was cradling his arm, and…there was part of his bone poking out of skin…  Namjoon cringed.

“Do you need help?” He asked the lady.

She looked up at him. “Oh!  Yes, please!  I need to get my son to a hospital!”

Namjoon nodded. “Do you have a car?”

“Yes.  Do you think you can pick him up?  I’m not sure if I can do it without hurting his arm…”

“I’ll try.” Namjoon picked up the child gingerly. “We should get him to the hospital quickly, he’ll need surgery for his arm.”

“Let’s go quickly!”

——————–

“Eunji, meet me at the cherry blossom garden in 20 minutes.  I want to talk to you.  It’s important.”

——————–

Namjoon sat in the hospital next to the girl in the waiting room.

“Will he be ok?  What if he’s not ok?  Oh, this is all my fault…” The girl buried her face in her hands.

“Hey, he’s going to be all right.  It’s ok.” Namjoon rubbed the girl’s back gently.

She looked up at him, tears brimming in her eyes. “Will he?”

Namjoon pulled her into a hug. “It’ll be ok, I promise.”

She buried her face in his chest, letting her tears spill.

——————–

Eunji sat on a bench in the cherry blossom garden, wishing she could be watching the blossoms fall from the trees.  It wasn’t the right season.  Why had Taehyung asked her here?  And where was he?  She looked around.  He had asked her to be here now.  She shrugged.

“Eunji.”

Eunji jumped at the sound of her name.  She looked behind her to find the source of the voice.  Taehyung was standing behind her with the sweetest smile on his face.

“Hi, Tae.” Eunji breathed.

Taehyung walked around the bench and sat down next to her.  He turned to her.

“Eunji, I’m sorry about the other night.”

She stopped him before he could talk any further. “It’s ok.  I get it.  You’re not in love with me.” She shrugged. “It’s ok, I can handle it.”

“I lied.” Taehyung blurted out.

“Hmm?”

“I lied about not being in love with you.  I am in love with you.  I’m madly in love with you.  I always have been.  Ever since the moment we first met.  Even back then, Eunji.  I’ve always been in love with you.” He pulled a rose out of the inside of his jacket and handed it to her, grasping her hands in his own. “I am so sorry.  I should’ve told you at the restaurant…but I couldn’t…”

Eunji was at a loss for words.  He was really in love with her?  Was she dreaming?  She stared at him for a few seconds.

Taehyung took a deep breath as she stared at him in shock.  He hadn’t known how she would react.  He supposed she would probably be mad at him for lying to her.  But then the most unexpected thing happened.  She threw her arms around him and pulled him into a hug.

“Tae…are you serious?  It was a lie?  It broke my heart…missed you so much…  I wanted my best friend back…”  She hugged him tightly.

Taehyung wrapped his arms around her.  He had hurt her that bad?  He felt horrible now. “I’m sorry…”

Eunji buried her face in his neck. “Tae, I love you so much…”

“I love you too.”
