Yes, Your Majesty – Chapter 8: Spreading Secrets

“So, how is it being married to His Majesty?” Yun asked as she fixed Ahseong’s robe.  Ahseong needed help getting ready today.  She was not used to putting on the large robes.

“Yun, we’ve been married for a week.  I think that’s barely enough time to judge how well our marriage is going.”

There was an awkward silence for a minute as they both searched for something to say.

“Are you and Jungkook ok?  You haven’t mentioned him in a while.” Ahseong commented.

Yun sighed. “We’re all right.  It’s just…we had a bit of a quarrel recently.”

“Oh?  What about?”

“I-there’s…there’s this guy I really like.  He was my best friend when I was young.  But he’s been distant for a few years.  Jungkook has only seen his bad side, so he told me I was too good for him.  I know he’s right.  It’s just…I don’t know how to get over him.  I’ve been in love with him for so long, I don’t remember what my life was like before I fell for him.”

“May I ask something?”

“Your Majesty-”

“I know, I know.  I don’t have to ask permission to ask you anything.  But…this question’s a bit more personal.”

“You can ask it.”

“Is the guy you’re talking about…His Majesty?”

Yun’s eyes widened. “I-I’m sorry…”

“What are you apologizing for?”

“It-it’s wrong for me to be in love with him now.  And it’s useless.  He never would have loved me.  Sometimes I wonder if our friendship was all a lie.  He was so quick to push me away after his parents died.  A real friend wouldn’t do that, right?” Yun cried out.

But Ahseong’s ears were not the only ones Yun’s cry reached.  On the other side of the wall, someone had been passing by the room.  The conversation had piqued his interest, so he had listened in.  Now he hurried off down the hall so that he wasn’t caught.

“Yun…I’m so sorry.  I wish our lives had been switched for your sake.  It must be so hard to watch your first love marry another.  I think Jungkook is right, though.  You need to find someone worthy of you.

“And…if I may be so bold, I think Jungkook himself may be a good choice for you.  He’s been your friend for four years, has he not?  I’ve seen him be nothing but kind to you.  He always has your best interest in mind.  He’s wonderful.  If I had been born as someone else, I would chase him.  He’s a darling, Yun.  If you can’t see that, I hope you do someday.”

Yun took a deep breath. “I don’t know…we’re just friends.  I-I mean…”

“I’m going to tell you the only piece of wisdom my mother ever gave me.  She said ‘Every good relationship starts out with two close friends.’  And I think she was right.  My younger sister didn’t get to know her husband before they married.  He was not a good choice for her.  My older sister, on the other hand, knew her husband from the time they were young.  She’d seen him in many different situations and knew how he acted around other people.  They’ve been married ten years now and are still very happy together.  So just…maybe give Jungkook a chance?”

Yun drew in a shaky breath. “All right.  I’ll think about it.  Thank you for your advice.”

“Meet me on the big balcony on the eastward side at 10.  You know where – Yun”

Jungkook stared up at that balcony now.  Was she insane?  The balcony she was referring to was three stories up.  Of course, he could probably scale the building.  The wall was not an entirely smooth surface.  But still.

Suddenly a head popped up from the balcony.

“Jungkook!  Is that you?” Yun’s voice came in a low whisper.

“Yeah.  It’s me.  Do you want me to scale the building or something?”

“Whatever.  Just, get up here.”

Twenty minutes later, Jungkook planted his feet on the hard concrete of the balcony.

“All right.  Why did you want me to come here?”

“I wanted to apologize for ignoring you this week.  I…needed some space, I guess.  What you said last week…about T-His Majesty not deserving me…I needed to hear it, so thank you for being blunt with me for once and saying it.”

“Um…you’re welcome, I guess?  It’s ok that we didn’t hang out this week.  I was exhausted the past couple nights after getting back from duty, so I probably wouldn’t have hung out with you anyway.”

“I didn’t talk to Jimin, either.  I sent him a note, but I guess he didn’t get it.”

Jungkook shrugged. “I haven’t seen him in a while either.  In fact, the last time I saw him was the week we snuck into the court yard.”

“Hmm.  I should check on him tomorrow.”
