“Jungkook.”
Her faint voice had grazed him in the middle of the night. He’d spent half of that night standing outside her apartment building. Trying to figure out what he’d done wrong. The frozen street light overhead his only company.
I’m still with you.
He’d thought it to himself hundreds of times that night. He’d stood there staring up at her window, but he could see the full moon overhead in his peripheral vision. It beamed down on him as though it approved of his intentions. He just wanted to shine in her life like that bright moon. To be a star twinkling in her heavens. He wanted to bring joy, and light, and laughter, and hope into her life. Always.
From the very beginning of their friendship, he had detected an odd sorrow in her eyes. He had never pinpointed its source. But sometimes, he’d wiped it away for a while.
With his voice. Raised in speech. Often sharing a joke. Or lifted in song. A honeyed melody sounding through his vocal cords as heartfelt lyrics flowed from the depths of his soul.
And with his kisses. Soft and sweet on her lips. To remind her that innocence did still exist in the world. That not every man was after what she sought to keep safe. His kisses reassured her that she was cherished. A treasure. The movement of his mouth upon her own always communicated that she was someone precious to him.
His kiss was sometimes like a butterfly alighting to spread its jeweled wings upon her lips. Touching her with wonder. Reminding her that the beauty of certain things was still untouched by the dark and deadly world surrounding her. He had been such a beacon of purity in her life.
The problem was that the sorrow always returned to her eyes. It had been there in full measure three weeks ago. When she’d left him. With no explanation. Had the root of that sadness somehow been the cause of her desertion?
Tonight, he’d continued to stand there as the darkness grew to overtake the day completely. He’d remained in the same spot. Even when the rains came. He’d been standing in the rain for half an hour now. At least.
He was freezing. He knew this was stupid. He’d already weathered one cold for her. But he couldn’t bring his feet to carry him home to the warmth of his apartment. It was so cold there now. Without her.
Yah…poor Kookie… ㅠㅠ
