I Mist You – Chapter 12: Wonder

She was no longer three-quarters of the way in love with him. She was one hundred percent all in.  Her heart was given.  And she wasn’t getting it back.

And it scared her.

He saw her eyes widen.  He recognized the fear in them.  But…why was she fearful?

“Don’t be afraid,” he whispered.

His eyes caressed her lips.  She returned the favor.  She could feel his breath slipping over her face as he looked at her.  She felt so drawn to him.

But it did scare her.  Because there was something underneath it all.  Some hidden pain.  Or sorrow.  Something that had made him turn to wine for comfort.  Until she knew what motivated him, she should tread carefully.

So she leaned back.  Away from him.

“So beautiful,” she murmured again.

“Yes,” he smiled.  “You are.”

She speared him with her gaze then.  But at the answering tenderness in his eyes, her expression softened.  How many men had told her she was beautiful?

Not many.  Beautiful was not a word they usually used.

Cute.

Sexy.

Hot.

And a multitude of other adjectives.  Not all of which were nice.

But Yoongi was…different.  She believed he really meant it.  He wasn’t just trying to get in her pants or move up the corporate ladder.  Was he?

If he was using her for those things, she failed to see how.

“Do you want to hear some more?” he murmured suddenly.

But his eyes were still clinging to her face.  The expression in them was making her heart do somersaults.  She nodded.  He turned away from her.  And she found she could breathe again.

His fingers began to flow over those keys like a waterfall cascading down a mountainside.  And the most spectacular music filled his tiny apartment.  And flooded her heart.

She didn’t want to ever leave this captivating man’s side.  As she sat, enraptured by the lovely melodies that streamed from his fingertips over the next hour, she fell in love with him again.  In those beautiful moments, she wanted to always be a part of his music.  She longed to hear more.  In fact, the more she heard, the more she wanted to hear.

“Your music is like air to me,” she whispered an hour after he’d begun to play for her.  “I don’t think I’ll be able to live without it should it cease.”

Her words.  Her words had just captured his heart.  Did she have any idea what they had just done to him?  That her words were like air to him.  He hadn’t been able to breathe for so long.  No one – no one – knew the deep desires of his heart.  Nobody knew how he longed to move someone with his melodies.  She had just birthed one of his dreams.

He gazed into her eyes intently for several long moments, but he didn’t say anything.  In fact, his apartment was so quiet that they could hear each other breathing.

“Yoongi, why did you change your mind about playing for me?”  She finally found the courage to ask the question burning in her heart.

His eyes slid along the bow of her lip.  Then they traveled up the steep slope of her nose.  Finally, they took a dip in her twin obsidian pools.  The corners of his lips quirked upward before falling to twist his mouth into a grimace.

“I missed you.”

She simply stared at him.  “You missed me?”

He nodded his head.

But it was more than that.

“Do you play the piano for everyone you miss?” she asked quietly.

“I don’t play the piano for anyone.”  He grew silent as his eyes probed hers.  Then, after a few breathless moments, he admitted, “I rarely miss anyone.  I usually love solitude.”  His eyes flicked over her face again before he turned towards the piano.

Would he ever open his heart – his thoughts – to her?

“But you asked me to come over.  At one in the morning.”

“Mmm.  When I’m around you, I find that I don’t love solitude.”

His words slipped into her heart and made her glow.

“Are you tired?” he whispered.

“No,” she breathed as she stared at him.

She didn’t want to leave.  But she knew it was now after three in the morning.  Her parents would be alarmed if she went missing.  And she did need to get some sleep.  She had work on Monday morning.  She groaned inwardly as she considered cleaning toilets again.  Was she always to be relegated to jobs of the lowest order?

“Yes,” she answered his question again.  “I should head home.  It’s so late already.”  But she made no move to go.

Suddenly, Yoongi turned towards her, and he gazed at her a moment before his head dipped her way and his lips brushed her cheek.  She gasped as a sweet heat flooded her core.  His lips lingered there on her face.  His warm breath sliding over her skin.  Her stomach did several somersaults on its way to standing still.  He slipped his arm around her waist and drew her closer to himself.

She’d stopped breathing.  She was yearning for him.  Craving his kiss.  All she’d have to do was turn her head towards him, and their lips would meet.  Her heart began to pound out an even rhythm, blood rushing through her veins.  She began to feel light-headed.  Was she elated?  Her eyes fluttered shut.

Yoongi’s eyes were caressing her beloved face.  He loved her.  He knew it in his bones.  He wanted to make her his wife.  He longed to carry her into his bedroom and show her how very much she delighted him.  He desired…everything…with this woman sitting here next to him.  He could even see the product of their love: a tiny, laughing boy with great, obsidian eyes.  Just like his eomma.

Yoongi’s eyes slid along the lovely lines of her face.  They traveled across her smooth forehead, taking notice of her delicate eyebrows.  He loved those gentle arches.  He bent and pressed a kiss against one before moving his mouth to cover the other one.  She trembled under his kiss.

He drew away slightly, and his gaze caressed the mounds of her eyes hidden underneath their lovely lids.  Then his eyes slid down her straight, little nose to its tilted tip.  He bent his head again and brushed his lips down the bridge of her nose before he planted a kiss on that pert tip.

Next, his eyes lingered on her lips before traversing her right cheek.  Was it blooming under his gaze?  He leaned towards her and pressed his forehead against her temple.  Then he simply breathed on that blushing cheek.  Raising her awareness of him.

Her heart rate increased.  Yoongi was loving her face with his lips.  And his breath.  She wanted to breathe that breath.  She turned her face towards him until his forehead was resting against hers.  And his breath was flowing across her lips.

They sat for several long minutes simply sharing each other’s air.  Yoongi closed his eyes too and trained all his other senses on her.  She smelled of…thyme.  His favorite scent.  He smiled.  He’d never known anyone else who smelled of thyme.  Except his eomma.  He rested there, just enjoying Nari’s woodsy fragrance.

Then his attention suddenly crystallized on the sound of her breathing.  The soft inhalation of air that flooded her lungs with life.  The tender exhalation that brushed across his lips ramping up his desire for her.

He reached up to touch her cheek with his fingertips.  His fingers slid across that soft skin.  Reveling in the velvet of her cheek.  Then his hand slid down to the base of her throat, and his fingers found her strong pulse.  His eyebrows flew up as he realized her heart was emitting a rapid tattoo.  The rate of her breathing suddenly escalated too.  Her breath flowed more frequently over his lips.

He drew closer to hers.  Slowly.  Building anticipation.  He’d experienced her with four of his five senses.  But he hadn’t yet tasted her.

Now his mahogany eyes found those tempting lips.  Blushing.  Soft.  Inviting.  Did she desire his kiss too?

Did she hide wonders there?  Buried underneath her skin?  Within the confines of her sweet mouth?  Could Yoongi drown there?  Inside the touch of those honeyed lips?
