Quarter of a Century – Chapter 41: A Delightful Date Interrupted

“Joonie!”  A familiar voice assailed his ears, quickly followed by five more.  Namjoon and Breeze were suddenly assaulted by a cacophony of “Namjoonie!” and “Joonie!” and “Namjoon Hyung!”

Followed by slaps on his back and sideways glances at Breeze.

“Ooh!  Who is this pretty girl?”  Jimin piped up.

Namjoon sighed.  Really?  He loved the guys, and he missed them, but he was on a date!  And he’d been about to kiss her!  But the mood was definitely dead in the water now.  He looked up in surprise.

“Jungkook, you came?”

“You were all there for my birthday.  Even if I wasn’t!”  Jungkook laughed.

Namjoon smiled.  “Guys, this is my friend, Breeze.”  He turned towards Breeze as he gestured to each one, introducing them, “Breeze, this is Jungkook, Jimin, Tae, Jin, Yoongi, and Hobi.”

Breeze grinned at them. “Nice to meet you all.”

Wow.  She was playing it so cool.  How was she doing that when there were ARMY bombs going off in her heart right now! This was a dream come true!  She was actually meeting all of the Bangtan Boys!

Of course, meeting them paled in comparison to kissing their leader.  But still, it was an honor.  So she kept smiling and looked them each in the eye as her voice made its way around the group.

“Jungkook.”  She grinned thinking of her best friend’s mother who was an ARMY mom and loved Jungkook so much.  She would so love to be here right now!  She’d probably put Kookie in her pocket and take him home to feed him and keep him safe.  And to tell him how very significant the real Jeon Jeongguk was.  The man behind the golden maknae mask of Jungkook.  The young man she could see very clearly.  Whom she adored for the beautiful heart he was.

“Jimin.”  She inclined her head towards him, thinking about how she identified so much with the perfectionism that drove him.  She wanted to tell him, “Jimin, you’re beautiful.  You’re perfect just as you are.  Stop trying so hard and rest.”  Things similar to what she’d told Joonie.

“Tae.”  She grinned, thinking about how much her best friend adored Tae.  Right now, he was showing off his boxy smile in all its glory.

She could hear her friend’s voice sighing in her ear, “Why is he so pretty?!”  She stifled a laugh.

They all adored Tae.  He was a sweetheart, loving children and animals and nature.  All of them wanted to be his best friend.

She moved on.  “Jin.”  Ah, worldwide handsome Jin!  She wondered if he yet knew deep down how precious, talented, and beloved he was.  He wasn’t just a pretty face.  He was so much more.

“Yoongi.”  She made sure her eyes contacted his own.  Yoongi was so precious to her.  She identified with so much of his pain, and she felt as though they would be best friends if they lived near each other.  She smiled at him to convey her love of him.

“Hobi.”  She thought of her other best friend who adored Hobi.  She’d be green with envy when she found out Breeze had met him.  He was such an inspiration to them both.  Her friend loved how he had pursued his dreams with a passion.  And, of course, she drooled over his handsome face too.  Breeze smiled as she imagined her friend meeting him here instead of herself.

The boys all looked at each other.  “Are you ARMY?” came the question from several of them.

Breeze was glowing with her affection for them all.  “Almost four years running now.”

They all smiled back at her, Jin blowing her a kiss.

“Hey!  She’s mine!” Namjoon shouted before he could stop himself.

Seven pairs of dark eyebrows rose as all the boys gazed back and forth between Breeze and Namjoon.  She was a little astonished herself.  It was written all over her face.

“Oh-ho.  Is she now?”  Yoongi asked in a quiet voice.

The faces of the other five reflected his surprise.  At first, they’d thought Namjoon was just sitting with an old friend from his childhood.  They had never dreamed that Joonie had picked up a girlfriend on his way home.

Namjoon looked at Breeze apologetically.  She smiled at him.  All six guys caught the exchange between their eyes as the light from the fountains illuminated their faces.  Namjoon’s feelings for the girl were clearly written all over his face.  There was an answering call in her countenance.

The six other Bangtan Boys all looked at each other and smiled.

“Good for you, Namjoon Hyung.”  Jungkook clapped Namjoon on the shoulder before sitting down next to him.

Tae nodded his head once.  “Yes.”  He sat next to Jungkook.

“I can’t think of anyone more deserving of love than you, Namjoon Hyung,” Jimin added before sitting in front of Tae, which started a mock fight because Tae wanted to see the beautiful, shimmering fountain.

Yoongi just looked at Namjoon.  But that glance spoke volumes.

Jin and Hobi sat behind Breeze.

“Good for you, man,” Hobi continued the remarks, a huge grin splitting his face.  “I see you found someone else to give you hope.”  The heart formed by his lips was dancing with joy.

Breeze turned around and smiled at j-hope.

That left Jin.  “So,” he bent towards Namjoon, whispering in his ear, “you found a sweet Breeze to cool you off, huh?”

“More like, heat him up!” Jimin laughed.

Breeze blushed and was thankful for the momentary darkness as the lights of the fountain suddenly went out.  This event drew everyone’s attention away from her, and she sighed with relief.  Then a moment later, the flowing fountains began to shine with a beautiful brilliance, beginning with a ruby red before transitioning to a sunset orange followed by a glittering yellow.  On to a glowing green, then a brilliant blue.  Next, an impressive indigo.  Finally, a lovely purple.  And all the while the boys’ song, Boy with LUV, was playing.  They all watched, enraptured.

When it was over, Yoongi turned towards Namjoon.  “How appropriate.”

Breeze slipped up and murmured, “Joonie, did you know that was coming?  Is that why you brought me here tonight?”

His eyes fastened on her pretty, pink lips while he was thinking that he’d brought her here tonight to kiss her.

All six of the other Bangtan boys jumped on her remark immediately.

“Joonie?  Ho-ho, who is this girl, JOONIE?”  That was Hobi.

“How long have you known each other?”  Jungkook queried.

“When did you meet?” questioned Jimin.

“Where did you meet?” Tae continued the interrogation.

“Seems you’ve been holding out on us!”  Jin exclaimed.

Again, Yoongi just glanced at Namjoon.  Their eyes collided, and Yoongi simply shrugged as though to say, “We knew this day was coming eventually.  Now what on earth are you going to do?”  There was a well of sympathy in his eyes as he thought of all the possible complications and the probable heartache.

By this time, they had attracted the notice of the crowd surrounding them.  And they were suddenly mobbed by fans.  Breeze slipped into the background, gratefully unnoticed.
